NYT/CBS Poll: Carson, Trump in Statistical Dead Heat
Newsmax ^ | september 15, 2015 | Cathy Burke

Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson has pulled to within 4 points of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, a new poll shows.

In the New York Times/CBS News survey released Tuesday, Trump maintains the lead of the presidential pack, with 27 percent support. But Carson is within striking distance, at 23 percent, which is within the margin of error, making it a statistical dead heat.Carson's rise compared with his polling at 6 percent support in the pre-Aug. 6 debate Times/CBS News survey; Trump was at 24 percent in that earlier poll, showing Carson's gains the most significant in that time frame, the poll shows.

Far behind the leaders were former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, all tied for third place with 6 percent.

Bush's support, however, has plummeted from the 13 percent he got in the August Times/CBS News survey – while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker finished with just 2 percent, down from his previous 10 percent support.

The declines in support for Bush and Walker were the largest in the survey, the poll shows.

In other findings: Carson drew more support from college graduates than Trump, while men, evangelical voters and those without a college education were more likely to favor Trump. Carson is the only candidate to whom Trump would lose a theoretical head-to-head matchup.

The poll's release comes a day before the second Republican presidential debate in California, where Trump will retain center-stage, but Carson will be afforded a bigger spotlight.

Read his book of four years ago. Same positions, he pretty well lays out his thinking and his plans.
It’s right there in front of people is they bother to looks and do some research.

A 4% lead with a 6% margin of error translates into a probability of 77.8% chance of the leader winning.

Um..."I was told there would be no math."

Well when Carson fills a 20,000 seat stadium like Trump did last night, then I’ll worry.

I'm sure they're hyperventilating over there. Strange how this comes out just before the debate. Wouldn't be the media trying to "poke the bear" would it?

I really believe that Trump has come around on the invader issue. The situation has gotten much worse, out of control, over the past four years. Non-extreme measures will know longer help.

On the budget, Trump is solid.

On knowing how to negotiate a good deal, not being led around by special interests, he'll be solid.

On Common Core, he's the only one who's saying anything about letting local communities decide what their children should learn.

On Veterans, I have no doubt he's the one who will finally do something. He already has.

On getting the whole nation involved and having people believe they can make a difference and they're part of something special, who else is going to wake up a can't do generation?

That's an real lot of issues where he's the very best candidate.

He has been consistent about his positions since entering the race. Your last month or last week comments alone leave you woefully out of touch with reality.

When a private citizen makes comments, it’s not the same as drafting your platform and running with it.

Take abortion as an example of his morphing over time. He was uncomfortable with it all along. He accepted a woman’s right to choose. On partial birth, he didn’t approve of that at all. In 2011, he came to a moment when he could not longer accept that abortion was okay depending on what a woman wanted to do.

He has been steadfast against abortion since then.

I’d suspect there are a lot of Conservatives who went through a similar process on abortion.

I did. You could say the same thing to me. “Okay, do I take you word for it now, or your word for it 25 years ago? Which is it?

Trump had to sit down and define his true beliefs. When he did so, he came down a lot farther Right than folks expected him to. And now folks are upset that is true.

In many instances they simply refuse to believe him.

Very strange...

The media is the enemy. I worry about their movements at all times. That's why I see this election as an opportunity to deliver them a harsh blow.

True.

No matter how Trump does at the debate Carson, Fiorina and Kasich will have the media going gaga over them.

This is why I don’t get too wrapped up in these biased polls and wish Trump would stop placing such high reliance on them as well.

Ben’s a jelly fish.

Mr. Carson, you will NEVER, EVER be POTUS! EVER!!

A previously little known, Communist reared, community organizer with no academic records has been elected as President of the United States twice. It’s not the candidate, it’s the backers that count in this modern electoral process. We’ll see if the American people can fight the shadow world of politics. If not, Carson will be the next President since he seems to already have become the “chosen” of the undercover money train.

A few on here have voiced the opinion that Carson’s sudden visibility doesn’t “feel” right. Indeed it doesn’t because it defies reason. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. We should all know that by now. If the American public can’t stand up against this manipulation we’re done.

Carson is Bush, Bush, Christie, Romney, Boehner, McConnell, Clinton, Reid, Pelosi, Obama, and McCain.

I know you’ll think I just thought up every bad name I could think of and tossed it out there, but these people all share his same immigration policies.

Trump is one of us on it.

Also look for the “your support of Trump over Carson makes you a racist” theme to start hitting the pundit circuit. They are already floating the “If Trump is the GOP nominee, we must run a third party conservative candidate” trial balloon.

They’ll throw muck until something sticks, and if nothing sticks they’ll keep throwing muck and hope the sheer volume turns people away from Trump. Gaslighting, I think they call it.
