I’m sure some of you here are my age. I can remember back what seems like a century ago when we actually had a bring your gun to school day. We would bring in our hunting rifles. Used them for Show & Tell. To the best of my knowledge I was never shot, wounded or killed by a classmate.

That’s why I posted it here - there was nothing I could do at the site.

The six year old had his sentence overturned. He’s back in school. Saw it on Fox. They interviewed the little tike. He was a hoot.

I do not have an ‘inside track’, I was not there, I do not know anyone involved in this case. So, let’s throw that out first.

Teacher: I hear you are an Eagle Scout
Kid: Yes, I am
Teacher: So, are you ‘Always prepared’?
Kid: Yes, I try to be. I even carry a small survival kit in my car, everywhere I go, just in case.
Teacher: Really? What do you have in your survival kit?

So, if the teacher knows that the knife is there, what does he do? Make a rationale, mature decision based upon the actual knife, the perceived threat from this student - or go on a power trip to show that kid ‘Who is Boss’?

The Eagle Scout is a better man than those judging him.

The Cub Scout was more moral than those judging either of them. Why don’t we start no tolerance in Congress?

We never had a ‘gun day’ at school; but when I was in school; every truck had a gun rack in the back window. Ammo was on the seat; we’d go from school directly to the marsh to hunt ducks after shool. Bring the .22 along to shoot gophers - and it was never a big deal.

Today, my fear would be that someone would smash the windows and steal my rifle or shotgun.

I can also imagine that the cause of the raucous is a liberal who knows the kid wants to go to West Point and deliberately set him up. One of the academies forgave someone that I know of underage drinking and allowed him to enter. Maybe West Point should allow this honorable student in, too.

You can do a lot of damage just poking your fingers in someone’s eyes or throat.

Maybe all students should leave their fingers at home.

Oh, and don’t get me started on shoe laces.

Thank goodness my youngest daughter was 5 yrs old in 1987 rather than now. She'd be in jail for sure in this day and age.

Our neighbor's day care kids (all older than 5) were in our yard tormenting (per my 5 yrs old's view) our newly walking/running kittens. She had asked them "many" times to leave them alone and go home, but they wouldn't. Her take on things was to go get her Cub Scout brother's pocketknife and threaten the kids (mind you the blade wasn't out).

The kids ran back to their day care house and promptly told the day care mom. Did the mom come to my house to tell me about it? No. She called the police.

I'm in my house unaware (because my daughter didn't tell me about the kids/kittens) and get a call (not a cruiser even!) from the police chief. As he was telling me about the complaint, I could tell he was trying to keep from laughing! He just asked I keep the pocketknife away from my dangerous (he laughed) 5 year old and that would be the end of that. He said he couldn't believe the mom wouldn't just come over and tell me about it. (That is a story in and of itself - when I asked her...she threw me outta her house).

Now a days...my 5 yr old would be picked up for sure and I probably would be charged with neglect. But then again...now a days a 5 yr old may actually stab someone with the knife. It's a sad day and age....

Those were great times. Young people today don’t understand how great it was to live in what was the freest country in the world. I mean real freedom not the stuff that passes for it today.

Maybe West Point should allow this honorable student in, too.

If his other qualifications are equal to his competitors, I agree absolutely.

Based upon the press this story is getting, I can imagine (again, no evidence whatsoever) that some member on the committee may streamline his application through the system.

If we were on that board, isn't that what we would do? Heck, I could probably be persuaded to over-look a couple bad grades - as this person not only demonstrated a committment to live honorably, but by keeping the survival pack he demonstrated that he 'lives' what he was taught. That trait would be something I would think would be of value to West Point.

Oh, and don’t get me started on shoe laces.

Going to have to ban pencils and pens also. Eyes have been put out by pens and pencils. People have even been killed.

Oh, and silverware. I mean, you can do a lot of damage with a fork.

A similar thing happened to me; I had a congressional appointment withdrawn due to a high school incident. What the teen should realize is that it shouldn’t disqualify him from an ROTC scholarship, which is the route I ended up going, and in retrospect, have had no regrets whatsoever.

My grandson had the smallest Swiss Army Knife they make, used it to clean his nails or something, and forgot he had it in his pocket. Someone saw it outlined in his hip pocket, and told a teacher.

He was sentenced, in court, to "alternative education". This consists of sitting in a room full of juvenile trouble makers all day, for over a month, I don't recall exactly. It will stay on his record until he is 18, they say, but I wonder if these things ever disappear from the records.

Gerry is a great kid, they had no business dragging him through this crap.

Could it be that some kids are not politically correct?

We used to take our shotguns to school so we could go hunting after school. An English teacher was making a custom stock for his M1 carbine in the shop, and brought the gun into class to show us. Glad I’m not a kid now.
