Did the Eagle Scout Receive Proper Punishment?
Yes
No
I'm not sure.

The Eagle Scout is a better man than those judging him.
A 17-year-old Eagle Scout in upstate New York received a 20-day suspension for keeping a 2-inch pocketknife locked in a survival kit in his car. But, he teen's family wants their son reinstated so he can live out his dream of attending West Point - a dream now in peril because of the mar on his record.
I agree. He didn’t get Eagle Scout by selling cupcakes. That rank means that he is an honorable, law-abiding adolescent. The thing is the school system has made his chances for West Point a complicated issue. The people that should be suspended are the administrators that passed this draconian sentence!
Seriously, what other industry outside of 'education' is this brain dead, this incompetent, this immature and this insecure that they have to demonstrate their power in such a childish manner?
It's like a power-hungry pre-pubescent child who is looking for reasons to flex their authority. Teachers want to be respected, they want to be recognized as professionals; yet this is the ONLY industry where you see this level of extremely poor judgement. This makes the TSA seem like a highly functional, mature and professional organization.
I have grandkids younger than 5 that exercise better judgement. The Grandkids got caught holding a 'Dance Party' on Grandma's piano - but I would only guess that the Teachers wouldn't do this because they are too lazy to crawl up there in the first place.
wtf is this?
suspended for having a knife LOCKED IN HIS CAR??
Maybe they want him to not survive if he ever needs his SURVIVAL KIT
Impossible to freep. All 3 answers are wrong
97% No.
And, I would add, I think they should have another poll asking whether we should tar and feather the school officials responsible for this travesty.
I would gladly vote “yes” to that. There are few things worse than what amounts to punishing a young man for celebrating goodness and virtue.
Aristotle would be horrified at such an educational practice.
First they took our guns then they took our pocket knives...
More proof that common sense has left public schools.
this is absurd. we’re supposed to trust a 17 year old with a pocket knife. so how come he has a driver’s license? what happens when he turns eighteen? i suppose the mythical god of nanistayet will chant the incantation and the boy will be blessed with Proper Behavior henceforth. i envision a collecyive, “behold, nanistayet says you can have knives, even though they are long, sharp, and pointy. until we take them away again . . .
Wonder how they found it and wonder if they violated his constitutional rights by searching for it.
Wth.
Yes - Means you agree
No - Could mean you think the punishment was too harsh, or heaven forbid not harsh enough, but still punishment needed.
I don’t know - left for the 1% of oxygen suckers that can’t decide anything.
Where is the “NO PUNISHMENT AT ALL” option?!
I suspect that it was well-known the Eagle Scout wants to go to West Point.
Either the kid of someone who works at the school wants to go to West Point and is trying to eliminate the competition, or someone is foisting their own bizarre personal agenda against ANYONE who might want to go to West Point.
i can’t type to save my life today. uh-oh. i think there’s an eagle scout with a 2” pocket knife at the door. i’m done for.
Realize one of the tennants of public (government) school: Train kids to believe that anything that could possibly be used as a weapon is evil and is to be avoided under severe penalty. It will be up to those kids to defend this country some day soon. All they will know is to avoid weapons and embrace diversity.
That was the Scout's screw up.
The school stopped him and asked if he had a knife on him because someone else said he did. He said no. They asked if he had one in his car. He said yes and that it was locked up. He volunteered the information thinking that 2" knife locked up in his car in a survival kit wouldn't be anything.
The school basically went on a fishing expedition and he bit instead of telling them to piss off and get a warrant.
Just imagine if he had say a tire iron or some long pointy thing like a 6 inch screw driver in his car too? ;~))
Many many years ago, a cousin of mine was a witness for the prosecution in a murder trial. He saw a man kill another man by stabbing him with a screw driver. It was a far more deadly weapon than a two inch pocket knife.
Well heck, yesterday the story was about a 6 year old Cub Scout that took his little eating utensil kit to school maybe being sent to reform school, so based on the way these people think, the Eagle Scout probably should get life.
