:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Is the U.S. Failing in Afghanistan?

It was malice in wonderland at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday as Bush Administration envoys insisted things are getting better in Afghanistan, while angry lawmakers from both parties cited facts and figures showing just the opposite. Even the senior Republican on the panel, Senator Richard Lugar, found the Administration's claims wanting. "I'm not sure that we have a plan for Afghanistan," he said.

Long seen as the "forgotten war" eclipsed by Iraq in U.S. priorities, Afghanistan is in the Washington spotlight this week with the release of three independent reports concluding that without a change in U.S. policy there, the erstwhile sanctuary of Osama bin Laden would remain a failed state. Lebanese prosecutor indicts 56 people accused of belonging to militant groups
Published: 02.18.08, 22:25 / Israel News

A Lebanese prosecutor issued indictments Monday against 56 people accused of belonging to extremist groups including al-Qaeda, the state-run news agency reported. Of the 56 suspects, 18 were under arrest and nine others, who were at large, were specifically identified in the indictment.

They include Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, Jordanians and Saudis, the National News Agency reported. The agency said the 29 others were identified in the indictment by their noms de guerre or by partial names because the government was unclear about their exact identities. (AP)

“’Arrests’ in Moghaniyah murder case”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Syrian officials are reported to have detained suspects said to be connected or involved in the killing of Imad Moghaniyah, a senior commander of Hezbollah, in Damascus on Tuesday.

According to the state-run Al Watan newspaper, “suspects of various Arab nationalities have been arrested”.

The paper claimed on Sunday to have obtained information from a “well-informed source”.

“Syria will announce the results of the investigations when the probe is over,” it said.

Moghaniyah, one of Washington’s most wanted men, was killed in a car bomb blast in the Kfrar Souseh district of the Syrian capital.”

That TYPE II error is going to bite super hard when it bites.

I suggest that you decide now what you’ll do when the oligarchy demands that you receive the implanted SLAG chip in order to be able to buy or sell. . . . but that at some point it will be the case that receiving it will require bowing down and worshipping The Beast and/or satan himself.

When daily news headlines match Scripture increasingly over the last 50 years . . .

PLUS the better sourced globalist oligarchy sources . . . at some point it becomes the depths/heights of blind foolishness to ignore such puzzle pieces.

However, be my guest . . . there’s a great throng enjoying whistling tunes past the grave yard these days.

Saboteurs may have cut Mideast telecom cables: UN agency
Mon Feb 18, 2008

DOHA - Damage to several undersea telecom cables that caused outages across the Middle East and Asia could have been an act of sabotage, the International Telecommunication Union said on Monday.

"We do not want to preempt the results of ongoing investigations, but we do not rule out that a deliberate act of sabotage caused the damage to the undersea cables over two weeks ago," the UN agency's head of development, Sami al-Murshed, told AFP. Five undersea cables were damaged in late January and early February leading to disruption to Internet and telephone services in parts of the Middle East and south Asia.

There has been speculation that the sheer number of cables being cut over such a short period was too much of a coincidence and that sabotage must have been involved. India's Flag telecom revealed on February 7 that the cut to the Falcon cable between the United Arab Emirates and Oman was caused by a ship's anchor. But mystery shrouds what caused another four reported cuts.

"Some experts doubt the prevailing view that the cables were cut by accident, especially as the cables lie at great depths under the sea and are not passed over by ships," Murshed said on the sidelines of a conference on cyber-crime held in Gulf state of Qatar. The Falcon cable has since been repaired, along with the Flag Europe Asia (FEA) cable which was damaged off Egypt's Mediterranean coast. The status of the remaining cable is still unclear.

BTW,

IF you will not accept refs like this one:

. . . about the President of the USA's publically owned MENTOR to whom Billdo REPEATEDLY PUBLICALLY asserted great respect and affection for . . .

. . . and who is an acknowledged insider for some years as part of the globalist Oligarchy . . .

Just WHAT SORT of evidence will you accept?

If the top 25% of the Council On Foreign Relations showed up at your front door and signed an affidavit in their own blood??? Would that even do?

I'm incredulous, at this point.

Refusing to see neon lit handwriting on the wall has to be a particularly perverse kind of blindness.

Truly the wise sages of old were correct . . . Nations die by suicide . . . suicide by the complacent; the uninformed; the willfully blind; the passive; the smug; the shallowly serene; the [_________fill-in-the-blank_________] . . .

Even God must shake His head at such incredible nonsense.

From the stories raised over the past 10 years, our country should have been turned over to these powers multiple times over.

And on what is that wild ASSUMPTION based? What refs of what primary source materials? What convoluted logic?

Oh, stand by, I think I know . . . my logic circuits are humming . . . . yes, it's getting clearer . . .

It's based on . . . drum roll . . .

UTTM
[Uninformed-To-The-Max]
BRAZEN
WISHFUL
THINKING!

Ain't that sweet. What a bulwark against tyranny wishful thinking is! We can all sleep better tonight because all the WISHFUL THINKERS have their wishful thinking caps on and some are doing overtime. What a comfort.

Such a brazen assumption as that posted above must be based on corollary ASSUMPTIONS . . .

1. that the FREEPERS has been such a card carrying member of the globalist oligarchy long enough to KNOW--JUST ABSOLUTELY KNOW--that they would have overtly taken power if they existed . . . OOOOOOPS, THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE . . . trying again . . .

2. The FREEPER is sooooooooo utterly 100% convinced because IF HE WERE IN SUCH POWER, HE'D HAVE MADE IT MORE OVERT LONG BEFORE THIS . . . annnnh plausible . . .

3. The FREEPER is so unimaginative as to utterly fail to come up with a different scenario--such as the Oligarchy has a time table spread out gradually and over sufficient long periods of time that the masses will continue to be lulled into their caskets like the frog in the bucket. Evidently the FREEPER can't imagine such a common sensical scenario consistent with tyrants throughout history. I guess the FREEPERS's PhD is not in history.

Morocco says breaks up important jihadist network
Tuesday February 19, 2008

RABAT - Moroccan security forces broke up a terrorist network with jihadist tendencies on Monday that was planning attacks in the north African country and arrested two Islamist politicians linked to the group, the government said.

A government official confirmed a report by the state news agency MAP which said an investigation had "led to the identification and arrest of the main active members of the network". "Twenty-three of them, including the network's leader Abdelkader Belliraj, were taken into custody," in the operation on Monday evening, MAP reported.

The group, which it described as "very dangerous", had links with other organisations active in Morocco and abroad, it added. Mustapha Moatassim and Mohamed Merouani, leaders of two lesser-known Islamist political groups, were arrested by judicial police as part of the operation.

Moatassim is head of Alternative Civilisationnel, which took part in legislative elections last September. Merouani leads an association, the Movement for the Umma, which was denied permission to become a recognised political party. "It's been common to arrest unknown people for being members of jihadist cells but this is the first time they mention people who are well known in Morocco," said political analyst Mohamed Darif.

Moroccan authorities have broken up dozens of suspected cells of religious militants in recent years and the country's prisons now hold hundreds of Islamists. Seven men blew themselves up in Morocco's economic capital Casablanca in March and April last year, killing themselves and a police officer. A spate of much deadlier bombings has hit neighbouring Algeria and security analysts suspect radical Islamist groups of stepping up cooperation to overthrow north African governments.

Serbia orders ambassador out of United States
February 19, 2008

SERBIA ordered its ambassador in Washington to leave the United States as a counter measure to US recognition of Kosovo independence. "The government of Serbia ordered that the ambassador of Serbia in Washington urgently withdraw to Belgrade," Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said in parliament.

"That is the first urgent measure of the government which will be implemented in all countries that recognise unilateral independence" of Kosovo, he added. The move comes as the United States formally recognised Kosovo's independence.

“Amtrak to beef up security”

From Jeanne Meserve
CNN

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “WASHINGTON (CNN) — Amtrak passengers will be subjected to random screening of their carry-on bags as part of a new security initiative that will include armed officers and bomb-sniffing dogs patrolling platforms and trains, an Amtrak spokeswoman said Monday.

Amtrak passengers board their trains November 21 at South Station in Boston, Massachusetts.

Details of the new effort, which were first reported by The Associated Press, will be announced Tuesday, the spokeswoman, Tracey Connell, said.

Unlike airlines, Amtrak has had few visible changes to security since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, but in recent years trains have been the targets of terrorism.

In 2004, bombings of commuter trains in Madrid, Spain, killed 191 people. A series of bombings in London in 2005, most of them on subway trains, killed 52 people. And security experts have long pointed out the vulnerabilities associated with rail travel and the difficulty in securing trains.

Amtrak chief executive Alex Kummant told AP the new measures are not a response to a “new or different specific threat,” but rather, he said, “just the correct step to take.””
