“Mosque Arson Suspects Face Federal Charges”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The three men accused of painting symbols of hate on a Columbia mosque and then setting it on fire face federal charges Tuesday.
Eric Baker, Michael Golden and Jonathan Stone are charged with unlawful possession of a destructive device.
They are not charged with committing a hate crime.
Investigators said the three used Molotov cocktails to set the Islamic Center of Columbia on fire early Saturday morning.
The U.S. Attorney said the investigation is ongoing and at least one of the men belongs to a dangerous organization, aimed at spreading hate.
Stone told investigators he’s a member of the Christian Identity movement...”
MANILA Philippines security officials said Thursday they had uncovered a plot by Islamic militants linked to the Al-Qaeda network to assassinate President Gloria Arroyo and target foreign embassies here.
Her security chief, Brigadier General Romeo Prestoza, said Arroyo had been informed of the threat, which forced her to cancel a scheduled trip Friday to the northern resort city of Baguio. The announcement came a day ahead of a major rally by Arroyo's political opponents to demand her resignation over allegations of corruption linking the first family. Security forces in the Philippines were placed on full alert, with Prestoza saying the plot was hatched by "extremists Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and the Abu Sayyaf," referring to Muslim militant groups with reported links to Al-Qaeda.
"It is not just the president, there are other targets," he told reporters. "A number of embassies in Manila have also been targeted for attack," Prestoza said, without naming the embassies. "The only event we have cancelled is the President's trip to the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio as it is wide open and difficult to secure."

Kosovo police late Thursday reported an explosion behind a building housing the advance team for the European Union mission at the flashpoint town of Kosovska Mitrovica.
"There are no injured," Besim Hoti, the police spokesman in the town, told AFP by phone. Two windows of a nearby house had been smashed in the blast, he added. The building is in the northern, Serbian part of the town, which is divided between Serbs and ethnic Albanians. Hoti said investigation for possible reasons behind the blast was underway.

Serbia voids Kosovo sepratists independence declaration
February 14, 2008
BELGRADE - The Serbian government said Thursday it considers Kosovo's expected unilateral declaration of independence as well as all decisions by the European Union to send its mission to Kosovo "null and void."
Kosovo's parliament is expected to declare independence from Serbia on Sunday. After that, the EU is due to send a mission to the province in order to oversee law and order in Kosovo. The intended declaration by the ethnic Albanian majority of Kosovo "violates the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Serbia..., the U.N. Charter, U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244 from 1999, as well as the existing international law," the government said in a statement.

They're not that far from Detroit (an hour's drive perhaps!)
Finkbeiner's latest press problem - his spokesman
The spokesperson for Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, Brian Schwartz, was called by WJR radio in Detroit to help set up an interview with the mayor. WJR says Schwartz used foul, 4-letter words to the station's producer. The mayor later apologized for Schwartz's actions. Schwartz has called in sick the last two days.
The mayor's Chief of Staff, Bob Reinbolt, says Brian Schwartz has been suspended for 15 days without pay for cursing "off-air" at the producer. "It was out of line yes," Reinbolt said, "as well as some other comments that were made to The Blade that I believe were out of line. Not professional, in terms of what I would expect a public information officer to say."
Kosovo and the EU...that’s hot topic stuff.
Thank you Oorang.
Real scum of the earth and that’s the difference between them and our Marines.
The difference is obvious.
Hamas said publication of the cartoon was an offense to the feelings of tens of millions of Muslims. We call for the trial of those responsible for publishing these drawings in the Danish newspapers, Hamas said, demanding that official apologies be made to Muslims.
It also called on Arab and Muslim governments to use those means of pressure available to them to put an end to the organised campaigns aimed at spreading hatred against Islam in the name of free expression.
Florida Attorney General agrees to Muslim advisory group
Agreement follows controversy over 'propaganda' film shown to staffers. In a meeting today with state and national Islamic leaders in Tallahassee, Florida, Attorney General Bill McCollum agreed to establish a Muslim community advisory group.

Agents have a new weapon in defense of the border
"In this sector we've had 81 attempted assaults so far just since October 1." Last week, an agent was working along the border just before dawn, when smugglers started throwing rocks. Haber tells us, "A situation like that really demands that an agent stay calm and collected."
The agency covers some of their vehicles with metal screening. They're called war wagons.' Agents can spend up to ten hours a day in a vehicle, and at any given moment someone can start rocking them.
Supervisory Patrol Agent Jeff Tanner has been an agent for seven years. "We don't want to have to resort to deadly force when it's not absolutely necessary. This gives us another option to end the assault as quickly as possible."
That's why the Border Patrol is now using the FN303. Tanner describes the newest weapon: "It's a tool designed for stopping assaults. It's here to protect agents and let them go home safe every night."
Florida.
It feels like a 9/10 world lately.
Thank you MamaDearest.

“Surge general accuses Tehran of backing militias to weaken Iraq”
Deborah Haynes in Baghdad
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A mastermind of Americas troop surge in Iraq accused Iran yesterday of trying to destabilise the Baghdad Government by supporting militias.
Lieutenant-General Ray Odierno, who has completed a 14-month tour of duty, gave his warning as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian President, announced that he would would make an unprecedented official vist to Baghdad next month.”
Apparently these individuals are the best Toledo has (coughing) to represent their fine city (demonstrated by cursing at media and kicking out marines).
Social skills and respect for our nation's best and brightest (US Marines) obviously not a job requirement for either the mayor or his assistant. Citizens there should be very ashamed of both.
If the citizens were ashamed; this wouldn’t be happening.
I agree Cindy. Crickets chirping in Toledo.
The links you've very thoughtfully provided about CAIR and Hamas/Hezbollah here on TM would have gone a long way to educate those people.
Some people just don’t want to be here on TM MamaDearest or any web site like it.
Some people are willfully ignorant and then when attacks and/or attempted attacks occur; they are “surprised.”

“House to let surveillance law lapse”
Sean Lengell
February 15, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) talks in front of other members of the House of Representatives after walking out in protest of the decision by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to let the Protect America Act expire.
House Democrats yesterday refused to revisit an update of the nation’s domestic wiretapping rules before they expire tomorrow at midnight, causing Republicans to storm out of the chamber in protest.
The dispute has led both Democratic and Republican leaders to accuse one another of playing political games with national security.
Republicans said it was a “disgrace” that Democrats decided to call a vote on contempt charges against White House Chief of Staff Joshua B. Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet E. Miers in the 2006 firings of U.S. attorneys instead of addressing the surveillance measure.
“We have space on the calendar today for a politically charged fishing expedition, but no space for a bill that would protect the American people from terrorists who want to kill us,” said House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.”
