Louisiana - Interstate 20 shut down because of pipeline fire

DELHI, La. (AP) - Interstate 20, a major east-west route across north Louisiana was shut down Friday afternoon after a nearby oil pipeline erupted in flames.
Sgt. Markus Smith of the Louisiana State police says the explosion happened about 1 pm.

Details were sketchy, but Smith says the pipeline was burning just east of Delhi, a small town about 200 miles northwest of New Orleans. The dispatcher for the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Department, who would not give his name, says the oil line is about 50 yards from the interstate. He says the four-mile stretch from Delhi to the Waverly exit will be closed in both directions indefinitely.

This is the second time in weeks an interstate highway has been shut down because of an oil line fire.

The plotters "were flying dangerously below the radar," said the FBI's John Miller, who was the LAPD's counter-terrorism head at the time the case broke. He added that the defendants had robbed gas stations for the money to buy rifles, had picked their targets and had set a date.

Six N. Korean ships were sunk by Sri Lankan Navy between Feb. 28 and late October of this year.

They were shipping weapons for Tamil Tigers, which were designated as a terrorist organization by U.S. State Dept.

Both N. Korean crews and Tamil terrorists were aboard the ships. They were all presumed to be killed.
Sri Lankan Navy was able to sink them with the help of U.S., which passed on intelligence on the location of (N. Korean) ships in advance

It is estimated that the repeated loss of the ships cost N. Korea $200 million.
The ships were 250 ft long, carrying Chinese artillery guns, ammunition, light weapons, and small arms.

Chinese arms manufacturer NORINCO has been selling weapons to N. Korea. However, it is not clear where the weapons on board originated.

As of Dec. 13, State Dept. is still standing by their official position that N. Korea has not engaged in terrorist activities since 1987.
