Halle - freakin - lujia!!!!
My heart gained back half its spark upon hearing of Miers' withdrawel.
The other half will (hopefully) return when President Bush puts up a solid, take-no-prisoners conservative originalist nominee.
I am already trying to erase this potentially huge GWB initiated mistake from my political memory.
IT's TIME TO GO ON THE OFFENSIVE, MR. PRESIDENT!!!
Not some tepid on your heels selection, either.

I hope you are right but I don't think Bush works that way.

With that having been said, President Bush does now have a clear choice; he can either nominate a clear conservative or a clear liberal.Sounds wonerful, what a bumper sticker. Do you even care if the nomination is confirmed or is it just about "making a point"?

***Yes, this has got to be incredibly embarrassing to all involved. I feel sorry for her.***
Don't feel sorry for her.
Remember one of her main assets was that she's a good bowler - she's got that going for her.
Oops, I'm sorry I'm being 'petulant' again.
(White Sox win the WS, she withdraws - YES!)

I love that photo. A great jurist, courageous and with real intellect and substance.
Luttig, McConnell and Ted Olson are also good picks along with Edith Jones and Priscilla Owens.
With our pool of legal talent, it really is an embarassment of riches for Dubya.

what's a Mulligan?A Mulligan's a "do over" shot in golf. I don't know whether to be happy about this or not. I just hope GW picks an unambiguous constructionist/conservative. If there has to be a knock-down drag-out fight, then so be it. I think it would hurt the Dems worse than us.

I would pay good money to watch her carve T. "The Swimmer" Kennedy up in hearings. : )

It's hard for dems to oppose the second nominaton, especially of someone they already confirmed for the court of appeals. The next one... if really a conservative... will take more heat. The dems will make what Miers has taken from our side look like childs play.

This is also a sure sign that Rove will be indicted. This is emergency damage control, taking them one at a time.

But he did promise to appoint "strict constructionist" judges, which he has done, for the most part.
But this is the big one, and he wanted us to close our eyes while he rolled the dice.

I don't know .... it wasn't me. I thought she'd end up getting confirmed.

and a devastating loss in the Senate when the 'Rats and moderate Republicans prevent a vote.
Do you really think Miers withdrew because of pressure from higher-ups? I don't. I think she is smart enough to realize that the 'masses' don't support her therefore won't support their senator. If the masses truly want a JRB for examples, they will be more compelled to listen to their constituents particularly if they are up for re-election. That's how it is supposed to work.

That may be what you want.
I want a good judge on the Court. Whether they get there by acclimation or bloodbath is immaterial.
But it is heartwarming to see your love of country so beautifully expressed. It must've pained you to no end that Roberts was such a good candidate that no serious person could mount real opposition. Or that you were denied the opportunity to pay the price that is inherent in every fight.
I'm thinkin' you need to read a little Clausewitz. Or Sun-Tzu.

Do you really want a person on the court who is acceptable to the democrats? That's the case in a nutshell of why I can barely support the R.P. any longer. They are always willing to moderate 'the plan' to get it through. And generally that 'plan' winds up being a near mirror of democrat policy.
Simply unacceptable! There damn well should be a fight. That's how wars are won, and we're fighting for the existance of this nation in adherence to what the founding fathers vision was.
To: Politicalmom
Really. Let's see him try to say the same about her that he said about Bork.

Janice Rogers Brown. I think she was who GWB had in mind from the beginning. My favorite. I would love to see Chuckie and Leaky attempt a battle of wits with JRB.
