Hear Me Now and Believe Me Later (Limbaugh on Schwarzenneger)
RushLimbaugh.com ^ | August 7, 2003 | Rush Limbaugh

Here me now and believe me later, my friends: all these conservative orgasms over Arnold Schwarzenegger are - like the "Gorbasms" liberals experienced over Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev - fake. I know that (R) next to Schwarzenegger's name excites the White House, but his own words prove he's not a conservative. I call this "The Hollywood Syndrome," and it happens every time some actor-type says anything even remotely conservative. I'm not trying to cold shower anybody here, but don't look to anyone in Hollywood to validate your political ideas.

The American Prowler's George Neumayr detailed Arnold's politics in his article "Here's Arnold!" Quote: "[H]e spoke in generalities and banalities about his plans for the state. To the extent that he said anything, he sounded not like a fiscal conservative but a moderate Democrat. He said that he wanted businesses to come back to California so that the state government could collect enough tax revenues to provide social programs. This is the sort of obtuse comment middle-of-the-road Democrats always make, forgetting that businesses are leaving the state because they are tired of paying high taxes for those big government social programs."

More: "He has told the press he is 'very liberal' about social programs, supports abortion and homosexual adoption, and advocates 'sensible gun controls.' His entree into politics last year was a proposition Democrats endorsed because it raised state spending for what amounted to state babysitting - before-school and after-school programs that cost the state up to $455 million a year. He has complained openly about the party's conservatism.... Talk magazine described him as 'impatient' with the religious right.... [H]e expressed disgust with the Republicans who impeached Clinton. 'That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for,' he said. 'We spent one year wasting time because there was a human failure. I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period.'"

Does this sound like "the Next Reagan," as some people are calling Arnold? Hardly. This guy may be the next actor elected governor of California, but that's where the similarity between him and Ronaldus Magnus end.

Thank you Rush. I'm turning blue in the face trying to get this message across to all these star-struck celebrity slobbering Arnold fans.

The guy is a big liberal. We don't need him and we WILL win without him.

Ya know, serial carpetbaggers like Rush should STFU about California's politics.

The Washington Post article on Schwarzenegger today had a quote from Laurence Leamer, Kennedy family biographer:

"Arnold is a liberal Republican, which, in terms of ideology, isn't that much different from John F. Kennedy as a moderate Democrat."

Seems to me if you've got Arnold pulling the moderate Republicans, Simon pulling the conservatives, McClintock pulling the far-right conservatives, the Republican vote will get split so many ways that someone like Bustamante, who might be able to deliver one solid bloc (Latinos) and some regular Democrats, is going to win this.

Argh.

I don't expect big things out of Arnold, in fact I expect things will pretty much remain the same. It will take someone with the vision of Reagan to clean up the place. But I do enjoy seeing the lib Dems squirm when they see that (R) behind Arnold's name.

Rush assured us Arnie wouldn't run for Governor just as he assured us Hillary wouldn't run for Senator.

Now, of course, he's got it right.

Listened to much radio commentary today on the Arnie candidacy, and as usual there was much lamenting and rending of garments on the ironclad right; he’s not this, he’s not that, he said this, he sleeps with a Shriver, etc. I am always mystified by people who would rather die pure than live with imperfections. Every candidate will always disappoint, somehow. Any candidate with whom you agree 100% is probably unelectable. If your bumpersticker says DON’T BLAME ME, I VOTED FOR AYN RAND I'm not particularly impressed. ‘Cause she’s dead and none of that stuff is going to happen. Doesn’t mean we can’t keep the ideas in play, but if you don’t vote because no candidate vows to privatize the sewage systems and disband the Food and Drug Administration, don’t come crying to me when your marginal tax rate hits 71 percent.

It's a free country and the simple fact is, Rush is right on this one. That seems to hurt your feelings. Well, too bad!

Yes.

whats your problem here?

Conservatives pure enough for that loudmouth blowhard don't do well in California. Schwarzenegger, for all his faults (and he has many), is conservative where it counts--economic and fiscal policy, which is the first and foremost problem facing California right now.

Why, you have something against free speech.

Myself I feel unitl California is given back to mexico, with forgiveness of the debt, there will be nothing but problems from that for the rest of the US.

So it is actually nation politics we are talking about, btw I left Cali in 89 cause I didn't like the Politics.

So I voted already.

Actually, The Maha-Rushie is wrong on this one. Schwarzenegger is, first and foremost, an economic and fiscal conservative, and that's California's problem right now. You're right, it's a free country, and that loudmouth blowhard is free to demonstrate his ignorance to his heart's content.

A 60% solution implented now beats a 100% solution still in the design phase. In other words take a Republican Lite now, get the Republican strong later. A 60 conservative beats a 100 liberal anyday. Arnold can win.

I would think that his support of abortion should be enough to show that he's not a true Republican. I don't really care though, if he does get elected or not...I really think California is headed for disaster no matter who gets elected.

Nope. I didn't suggest FORCING Rush to STFU, I merely stated my opinion of his verbal flatulence.

Myself I feel unitl California is given back to mexico, with forgiveness of the debt, there will be nothing but problems from that for the rest of the US.

Well, my THOUGHTS about your FEELINGS are that they're idiotic.

Rush is dead on right about this one. Arnold detests social conservatives. He is no help to the conservative cause. Thats why Feinstain isnt saying too much. Arnold and left wingers are two peas in a pod.

Rush may be right and wrong at the same time. We in California have been waiting for another "Reagan" for too long. Arnold is not Reagan and can never be President. The most he can do in California is 10 years as Governor, due to term limits. While he is not as conservative as I might like, this is a liberal controlled state. Virtually every state office is controlled by Liberal dems. We have tried to elect a conservative like Simon, but he doesn't have the appeal to win. Do we just surrender to the Dems until we can get the "Reagan Republican" elected? Issa was a true conservative and was polling at 4%????? You don't turn an aircraft carrier on a dime. Lets get what we can.
