The Washington Post article on Schwarzenegger today had a quote from Laurence Leamer, Kennedy family biographer:

"Arnold is a liberal Republican, which, in terms of ideology, isn't that much different from John F. Kennedy as a moderate Democrat."

Seems to me if you've got Arnold pulling the moderate Republicans, Simon pulling the conservatives, McClintock pulling the far-right conservatives, the Republican vote will get split so many ways that someone like Bustamante, who might be able to deliver one solid bloc (Latinos) and some regular Democrats, is going to win this.

Argh.

You are indeed correct. Bustamente is going to win this thing because he's Mexican and he'll clean up on the hispanic vote. He'll be the only viable Dim on the ticket (Arianna Huffington is for show, and the porographer and the porn queen, et als, are in the race for publicity only) and thus will garner all of the Dim votes, which outnumber all Republican votes, and those Reb votes will be split among four candidates: Ah-Nold, Simon, Peter Ueberoth and McClintock.

You're correct. If the some of us FReepers have our way, there will be wall-to-wall Democraps in Sacramento for the forseeable future.

California needs someone to cut taxes to lift all boats with a rising tide of economic growth like JFK did. If Arnold does the same, CA will have been much improved over Gray Davis' tenure.

You can't go from a far leftie like Gray Davis to a far rightie WITHOUT a step in between....ala ARNOLD!

Things just do't go that way. New York would have elected a REAL Repubican instead of Bloomberg, bt there wasn't one running. Pity.

Arnld can get people to work TOGETHER. Period.....who else could?

No matter what any candidtae says they will do, the legislatre still has to VOTE FOR IT! A right winger will get Nothing done.
