An Iranian assassination threat against President Donald Trump prompted an extraordinary operation last month in which he flew secretly from Turkey on an alternate military aircraft while the White House said he was aboard Air Force One, The Washington Post has learned.
The clandestine mission, which has not been reported previously, was carried out unbeknownst to journalists and some White House staff members who believed they were on the same plane as the president, according to material reviewed by The Post, a U.S. official familiar with the operation and another person with knowledge of the president’s travel. These people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the matter.

"President Donald Trump secretly flew on an unmarked Air Force C-32A military aircraft from Turkey to the UK on July 8, 2026, using the nondescript call sign "Reach 18" instead of "Air Force One." This elaborate deception was triggered by a credible Iranian assassination threat, involving Trump boarding a legacy Boeing 747 in view of cameras before being shuttled via a catering truck to the smaller, unmarked jet.
Decoy Operation Details The legacy Air Force One aircraft, carrying journalists and some White House staff who were unaware of the swap, departed as a decoy and utilized the official "AF1" call sign mid-flight to mask the President's absence. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accompanied Trump on the secret flight, while reporters on the decoy plane were instructed to close window shades, a move Trump later attributed to dangers posed by adversaries.
Context and Precedent This security measure mirrors a similar operation in 2000 involving President Bill Clinton and follows recent concerns regarding the security features of a newer Qatari-gifted Boeing 747-8. The White House has not denied the report, with Communications Director Steven Cheung stating that the administration uses "every tool at our disposal" to address threats from enemies."
Apparently much to the disappointment to the writers of this piece, since they sought to expose and make this public.
Diabolical.
I guess the aides that rode on Air Force 1 that trip were considered replaceable decoys.
Strange statement.
“I guess the aides that rode on Air Force 1 that trip were considered replaceable decoys.”
I would hope not. Now reporters...
WaPo wants all the details so they can work with Trump’s enemies to take him out. He thwarted them once again in Turkey and it pissed WaPo off.
Black site these treasonous, POS, scum and break out the wood chipper...
Chances are it was someone from the IC which means they’re pretty much immune from prosecution.

"Yugely responsive but a little shudder pulling up after five Gs."
Silly, lying WaPo. This was reported when it happened!

In a surprise swap, Trump flies back from Turkey in an old Air Force One, not the Qatari-gifted jet
The Wash Po is decidedly on Iran’s side, due to their connection to Pierre Omidyar and that uh, cold case of the “journalist” Qashoggi.
It took 4 to write that ???

Bite-Me lied out of habit and the press praised him for it.
Trump45/47/48 lies out of necessity and gets pilloried for it.
Why was this reported at all?
WaaaaaaaaPo upset that Trump takes proper security measures...
Given the source, you have to ask?!
lol....The media got it soooooo wrong...
Diabolical intent perhaps, but the reality was a gigantic flop. Who cares. Not even worth the parer ot is written on, news wise.
Don’t forget all those white house correspndents.
They will be in therapy for decades.
Goats for the tiger.

I bought that book in 1976. Did not know where that phrase came from.
A really great book. Anthony Cave Brown was an excellent author on WWII intelligence material. Some of it was not allow to be publish until it was declassified in the Freedom of Information Act.
