President Donald Trump flew home from a NATO summit in Turkey on an old baby blue Air Force One plane instead of the new Qatari-gifted and retrofitted red, white and navy blue jet he arrived in, a surprise swap that came as the U.S. and Iran once again began trading strikes.
Trump offered little clarity on the swap, instead saying he would fly on the legacy aircraft “for old time’s sake,” and indicating that both aircraft would make a previously unscheduled stop on the way back to the U.S. at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, a base used by U.S. troops.
The travel switch raised fresh security questions about the new aircraft that the U.S. spent $400 million to retrofit. Images of the Qatari-gifted jet captured since its unveiling show it is not equipped with some of the same missile detection and countermeasure systems as the older jets.

Security....How, where and when...juggle it...
Then put the damned security crap on the new plane.
Obviously Trump has no idea what he is doing.
That’s not good.
He should have waited on using the new plane.
The new plane wasn’t supposed to be ready this soon. Trump probably pushed to fly it for July 4, Mt Rushmore event, before the missle systems were added.
I never understood why a US President would accept a gift like that from Qatar in the first place.
Maybe they found an Israeli pager in the new one.
Huh what? The new plane was fine for in America. In the Middle East? It shouldn’t have been there at all. Security not fully vetted and I for one don’t fully trust Qatar.
I would bet that Trump knew that he wasn’t flying back on that plane before he took off.
Sounds like a security concern. Maybe the new bird wasn’t fully functional with the new protection mechanism, or some other fault that when discovered became a concern for the security detail.
Better to play it safe. His people know more about this than we do so why speculate?

Not surprising. Qatar has shown its real colours during the Iranian war.
Hopefully Boeing replaces it real soon.
The AF1 is almost as old as the Canadian CF18’s.
He personally can’t accept it if the gift is over a nominal amount. I think its $250. He can accept it as the elected representative of the United States. The gift doesn’t belong to him it belongs to the people. The decision to accept it or not is his as head of the excutuve department but there might be but doesn’t have to have input from State and DOJ.
If he wanted it personally he’d have to buy it at full market value plus tge value of improvements. Even if the gift is put into their Presidential Library tge gift is still owned by the People of the United States and is on loan to the Presidential Library. I think they can have them at home after they leave office but its on loan and Im pretty sure the Executive Department can demand return at any time..
The claims that its an emolument is BS and was generated in bad faith.
You could argue that a gift from a specific country or individual isnt a good idea example a human skull gold plated drinking vessel from North Korea but the President accepting it 9n behalf of the American people isnt illegal.
