Mamdani, Trump’s expected slugfest turns into a lovefest as president says socialist will make NYC ‘greater than ever before’

They found comrade ground.

Zohran Mamdani’s high-stakes White House meeting turned into a Freaky Friday lovefest *** A sitting Trump, with Mamdani standing by his side behind the Resolute Desk, heaped praise on the democratic socialist, jovially touching his arm as he helped him dodge tough questions and unexpectedly predicted his mayoralty will be a success. “I think he wants to make it greater than ever before,” Trump told reporters. “And if he can, we’ll be out there cheering. I’ll be cheering for him.”

***they both touted as productive and focused on Mamdani’s core campaign issue of affordability. *** Mamdani notably avoided taking any bait to praise Trump, though he did offer that the president’s better-than-expected showing in New York City during 2024’s presidential election came because of his own focus on kitchen table issues.

“I think both President Trump and I, we are very clear about our positions and our views, and what I really appreciate about the president is the meeting that we had focused not on places of disagreement, which there are many, and also focused on the shared purpose that we have in serving New Yorkers,” he said.

Trump agreed.

“We have one thing in common. We want this city of ours that we love to do very well,” Trump said ***. The president even swooped in when Mamdani — who during the campaign vowed he would be Trump’s “worst nightmare” — was pressed by reporters about his past insults calling him “fascist” and a “despot.” “That’s OK, you can just say yes,” Trump joked, affectionately patting him on the arm, when Mamdani was asked if he still thought of the president as a “fascist.”

“I’ve been called much worse than a despot, so it’s not that insulting,” Trump also said***

Prediction: The love fest will be over before Christmas or should I say Ramadan?

Politics makes strange bedfellows.

This actually is a method by which donald trump can demoralize far leftist voters: the optics of this situation make Mamdani look like he is now buddy-buddy with trump, leftists who voted for Mamdani see this as him back stabbing them and now befriending The Don, so now they will be even less inclined to vote for anyone like Mamdani again because they feel like Donald Trump has some secret mind control where he can move any leftist into his camp.

Two pugilists trying to throw each other off their guard.

Mandami may be many things, but dumb is not one of them; Trump is the Alpha politician right now; he’s young enough to bide his time and not wade in swinging. Trump likes winners. He possibly respects Mandani more than he ever could Hillary or Biden; he won in NY.

Neither is dumb enough to underestimate their opponent.

Send the illegals home and housing would go down while worker salaries went up. Problem solved.

But no, the communist and Trump only want to focus on the “bad hombres”.

Mamdani is not stupid. You don't walk into the Oval Office and slam the President of the United States no matter how much you disagree with him. They found something in common despite near-polar opposite political and economic views. That's not a bad thing.

Mamdani hasn't taken office yet. Up to this point it's all been TALK -- the politics of getting elected. We'll see what he DOES after he takes office. That's what counts. PDJT will have things to say about that, for sure.

..... I think it's time that everybody here reads a book written by somebody who knows how it's done. It's entitled "The Art of the Deal." Some here might find it rather enlightening......

“ I smell a rope-a-dope.”

I smell a “leave me alone and the rest is up to you.” Trump is the best in the real estate game in New York City. Momhdani came to truly be on his best behavior and show respect.

We’ll see.

“affordability”

It wasn’t affordable 43 years ago.

Ifmyou parse what Trump says it isn’t really a love fest. There are qualifiers in his statements. They also don’t define what each believes about certain terms and phrases. They say the same words but the definitions are different.

It is my understanding that Mount Vernon, NY was founded in 1846 because NYC wasn’t affordable.

Terribly disappointing. No matter what his strategy is I wanted Trump to put that little POS communist in his justifiably subservient self
