Ron DeSantis hits new low in national poll

Nikki Haley doubles DeSantis' support. Donald Trump leads him by 57 points.

Gov. Ron DeSantis arguably had his best performance in a national debate this week, with a widely viewed showdown with California’s Gavin Newsom the week before. But new polling suggests it might not matter.

In the latest Emerson College poll, the Florida Governor has fallen to 7%, his worst showing in any national survey in the 2024 cycle. Adding insult to injury, DeSantis is actually at 6.7%, benefiting from rounding to even hit the modest 7% threshold.

DeSantis trails Nikki Haley, who has double his support at 14%. And as usual, former President Donald Trump leads all candidates, with 64%.

If there’s any positive spin for DeSantis out of this survey, it’s that he still leads Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie, who each have 4% support.

I often read that the young voters are the ones who really favor Vivek Ramaswamy - are his base. Is there any data reflecting that???

It’s a shame. Until his presidential run, I liked DeSantis. Had been a good governor.
It was a politically catastrophic decision to run at this time. Should have supported Trump and continue to build a strong Republican stronghold in Florida.

Truly sad.
A damned good governor giving hell to all the right people, but a terrible presidential candidate. You all need him whupping ass on PedoDisney and Wokism, not a distant third behind two better candidates (note, I said ‘candidates’, as POTUS he would be fine, but he ain’t getting there).

a cranky .02

Younger voters do.

Vivek’s basic problem is he has wanted to be president since he was a kid and mimics Obama and Trump. There are lots of videos on Twitter showing Obama saying one thing and Vivek saying the same.

He’s already made fun of because of this.

Not to say he doesn’t have a place in a Trump administration but face reality, Trump will be the nominee.

Moral of the story: Never take political advice from Karl Rove, never become the pawn of the Bush family and always try to avoid visions of grandeur. De Santis if he had been prudently patient, tolerated Trump’s rough edges would have been VP in 2024 and probably President in 2028. Instead he has ruined his political career and will never be President.

Gosh, you’d think winning every debate every time and spending $250 million, and visiting every country in Iowa would have some result...

Despite DeSantis’ poor timing, what kind of “conservative” prefers Haley over DeSantis?

I think he’s still strong in Iowa. Trump has to make sure he holds Iowa and NH. If he does I don’t think there is much else they can do to stop him (legally, not like that matters to them). The polls are pretty consistent though. Once people started dropping Trump starting clearing 50% more regularly. I haven’t seen NH in some time but that’s the one where he remains under 50% I expect Christie to throw his support to Haley to try and stop Trump but you have to figure some of the Christie support is that they like his screw you style and EVEN some Christie support would go to Trump. The analyst like to assume that certain support will go 100% one way or another and that’s not how it works.

Gov. Ron DeSantis arguably had his best performance in a national debate this week...

This survey was conducted 4-6 December.
