The Supreme Court on Thursday curbed the Environmental Protection Agency’s options for limiting greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants, one of the most important environmental decisions in years.

Shouldn’t it be 1794?
Bump!
I guess that depends on when you look at the timeline. The ‘Revolution’ was from 1794-1795 to 1799. To me, the basic lesson is that a despotic, uncaring monarchy was replaced with an uncontrolled mob rule which turned out to be (IMO) as equally ruthless.
The Supreme Court just said congress cannot delegate. They can only pass laws.
This has the potential of entire concept of having these agencies being gone.
The entire Administrative State of the Federal government should come to an abrupt halt.
This is huge, and it gets us back to how the Founders intended.
Well I hope that is what it says. So far the descriptions I have seen of what it means have been very confusing. With no one else making it(the decision) sound as simple as what you are saying.
Let me guess 5-4 with Roberts siding with liberals.......
Every agency created in the 1970s to placate rioting hippies needs to be abolished.
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
First the Supremes overturn Roe v. Wade because of Constitution's silence about abortion, something justices could have argued decades ago.
But even though the Constitution is likewise silent on environmental protections, instead of appropriately (imo) declaring EPA unconstitutional, the Supreme's merely limit the EPA's constitutionally non-existent powers (you might have to read that a few times).
Compare from another thread...
Did election year Democrats possibly work in cahoots with Supremes to sacrifice their politically correct, pro-murder of unborn children sacred cow to give the very corrupt, Democratic-controlled Congress the politically correct excuse to rescue women from pro-life conservatives by making constitutionally indefensible federal abortion rights legislation to try to stop Trump's red tsunami of patriot supporters in November?
Something like that.
Supreme Court election year double standards?
Insights welcome.
”I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.” —James Madison, Speech at the Virginia Convention to ratify the Federal Constitution (1788-06-06)
”To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition.” —Thomas Jefferson, Jefferson's Opinion on the Constitutionality of a National Bank : 1791
”The system of the General Government is to seize all doubtful ground. We must join in the scramble, or get nothing. Where first occupancy is to give right, he who lies still loses all.” —Thomas Jefferson to James Monroe, 1797.
Again, insights welcome.
Precedent!
No, Freepers, lots of them hating on Justice Barrett when she recursed herself on the election a few days after being confirmed.
Praise Heavenly Father!
In Sweet Jesus Name. Prayers, praises, and Happy Dance too.
Yeah, but it’s McConnell’s Court as well, if not more. Even before Trump McConnell used the rules and precedents of the Senate to deny Barky’s choice of Garland and then reversed it all when RBG left us. So give McConnell some kudos.
More winning.
I am not tired of winning yet.
Thank you PRESIDENT Trump.
Nope. Win for us. You’re looking at the issue of immigration, and I agree it was a loss for us on that front. The Migrant Protection Protocols were good. But our side was in the wrong on how they were ended. If the executive branch has the right to create something, they have the right to end it too.
The leftists abused this when they tried to stop President Trump from ending crap Obama put in place. So our side said “fine, we can do it too.”. and we correctly got slapped down. So ultimately, the left and the right lost the ability to abuse the system.
This was the correct decision but it should have been 9-0.
A significant player in creating the Migrant Protection Protocols is backing this decision, even though they strongly support the Migrant Protection Protocols being the law of the land.
yep! you get it.
Nope...In fact, he wrote the opinion.
By far the biggest threat to our country is the un-elected regulatory Deep State — from the Democrat terrorist organization known as the FBI to the EPA. This decision is a first step to dismantling this network.
I won’t hold my breath that it will matter in the long run. Republicans love regulation, too. Gets them off the hook from making the hard decisions...
Completely true. Huge is mild, it would end the whole thing. The beast is going to fight back.
The average moron watching normal news still thinks Roe v. Wade was the most important decision of this term.
