There are 34 Senate seats up for election in 2020 including a special election in Arizona many of which are expected to be brutally competitive as Democrats vie for control of the Senate.
Quick take: The U.S. Senate is currently made up of 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats and 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats. Dems must win 3 or 4 seats to take control of the Senate 4 to recapture control or 3, if they also win the vice presidency.
Some of the fiercest races will come from Virginia, North Carolina and New Hampshire, according to a late 2018 analysis from FiveThirtyEight.
Republican senators representing left-leaning states Susan Collins (R-Maine), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) are considered among the Democrats clearest 2020 targets.
As Democrats from Trump-won states Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) are also vulnerable.
Some of the notable seats include Sen. Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.).

Collin Peterson is a Democrat who represents the 7th District in Minnesota. In 2016 Trump won that district by an astonishing 35 points. If the GOP cant win that one, then the state party should consider disbanding.
Not to disparage the MSM, but they should do a little more research. Right now, the only competition for Collins consists of a Travel Agent, and a lawyer who identifies as a "Queer Feminist Mermaid".
Seriously. Not making this stuff up.
Plenty more needs to be said, because you have completely missed the lessons of that election.
As a Republican candidate, Moore deserved party support. Instead he had Republican members of Congress shooting their mouth off every so often, timed just right to prevent him from gaining traction.
I’ve seen this play out here in California over and over again. Neither the state or federal wings of our party, help our candidates with funding, other resources, or top level endorsements. Our candidates go out on the campaign trail with one or two nobodies in tow. At the same time, the democrat candidates have highly visible state and federal figures show up with them.
Moore got exactly that sort of treatment. And now you’re blaming all this on him. Put the blame where it belongs!
As stated before, the Republicans launched a robocall effort the day before the election with a prominent Republican telling Republicans not to vote for Moore.
You had the media lifting women who had nothing tangible to say, except that Moore done them wrong, when they couldn’t say specifically what he had done that was against the law.
This guy was pounded by all sides, and still came up with a very respectable showing.
Poor campaign?
That’s all you can come up with? Seriously?
You certainly choose to overlook the post in the party’s eye to focus on the splinter in Moore’s.
Hell has gone Methodist before. Gale McGee, a royal horse’s rump, was a U.S. Senator from Wyoming for many years.
Wishful thinking by Dems.
McSally isnt a good campaigner. That being said, Sinema won due to the illegal ballot harvesting here. Oh, and the Maricopa County and Pinal County recorders counting ballots where the signatures werent even close. Cheating in AZ was off the charts in 2018. And McSally May have a former Phoenix Mayor as opponent. If the Right doesnt do SOMETHING about the cheating, and so far I have seen NOTHING BEING DONE, kiss this and many other seats, along with the country, goodbye.
It's early and the Left put a big target on Collins's back following the Kavanaugh hearing. So if her competition remains a travel agent and a mermaid then I won't sweat it. But we'll see who her opponent in the general winds up being.
Unless McSally fires the ex-McCain advisors, she is going to loose.
Didnt a Dem just get elected Governor in NC?
Baloney. Go back and do some research on his antics after he lost the 2006 GOP primary campaign for governor. It is completely disingenuous for anyone who pulled that kind of sh!t to expect ANY support from the Republican Party.
Poor campaign? Thats all you can come up with? Seriously?
The guy lost in one of the most conservative states in the U.S. Do I need to say anything else? Face it ... HES A LOSER.
“Hell will go Methodist before Wyoming elects a Democrat senator.”
Did you see where that confirmation class in a Nebraska Methodist church refused to be confirmed because the church wasn’t receptive enough to gays?
You dismiss everything else to trash a man that would vote with us 99% of the time.
That makes very clear who the losers are.
Do Republicans have a chance in NM?
Ernst isn’t a lock for re-election in Iowa.
Unlikely. The FReepers who spent the last election cycles screaming at the top of their lungs that Pat Roberts will morph into Arlen Specter if he's re-elected, or that Liz Cheney would "destroy the establishment" have yet to recant and admit they were on the wrong side after being PROVEN wrong.
Oh, and I'm still waiting for Attorney General Barr to be the "gun grabber" and "anti-Trump swamp creature" his detractors swore up and down he'd be if he was confirmed as A.G.
Neither did President Trump ... which is why he endorsed Luther Strange in the GOP runoff in 2017.
I love the guys principles but he is completely ill-suited for any role in a legislative body.
“Hell will go Methodist before Wyoming elects a Democrat senator.”
Not to change the subject, but have you been keeping up with the Methodists?
Virginia will be one of the fiercest races? In what alternative reality will that occur? In this blue state, Mark Warner will be in that Senate seat until he's good and ready to leave.
The reality is voters in deep-red Alabama rejected Moore, plain and simple. We need the seat, and it’s time for him to move on. If he doesn’t, and somehow ekes out another GOP nomination, plan on Doug Jones inhabiting that seat for another six years. He may be vulnerable, but he’s not THAT vulnerable.
