America's coming civil war -- makers vs. takers
Fox News ^ | Published July 12, 2012 | Arthur Herman

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Abe Lincoln used those words in 1858 to describe a country that was careening toward civil war. Now we’re a house divided again and another civil war is coming, with the 2012 election as its Gettysburg.

Call it America’s coming civil war between the Makers and the Takers.

On one side are those who create wealth, America’s private sector–the very ones targeted by President Obama’s tax hikes announced Monday.

On the other are the public employee unions; left-leaning intelligentsia who see the growth of government as index of progress; and the millions of Americans now dependent on government through a growing network of government transfer payments, from Medicaid and Social Security to college loans and corporate bailouts and handouts (think GM and Solyndra).

Over the past century America’s private sector has been the source of productivity, innovation, creativity, and growth–and gave us the iPhone and iPad. The public sector has been the engine of entitlement, stagnation, and decline -- and gave us Detroit and the South Bronx.

The private sector built the strongest economy in the world. It armed the free world in World War Two, and then in the three decades after the war turned America into the most prosperous society history had ever seen. It revived America in the Reagan and Clinton years, and thanks to the Bush tax cuts brought this country back from economic collapse after 9/11.

In those same years a growing public sector, by contrast, turned Europe into a cesspool of debt, stalled economies, and chronic social dysfunction that’s set the streets of Athens -- and perhaps other European capitals--on fire.

That’s where we’re headed, too, more rapidly than we like to think.

Why do Freepers delude themselves about the possibilty about a Civil War? For a variety of reasons, but perhaps the most popular is the idea that we can turn the tide of abject tyranny to liberty in our lifetime.

" there will be a lot of dead people before it ends.

Let's get it over with as soon as possible then. Maybe our kids will actually stand a chance in this world.

Will never happen, at least not in a way that would have any result that would benefit liberty.

Obama already has EO’s in place (and possibly countless others) that nationalize the nation’s farm and food production. When it comes down to it - the state will use brute force to take over and secure those growing regions.

How many will be willing to die to “starve” other Americans? That’s what will be said, and the nation will applaud armed force used to confiscate what the state needs to hand out sustenance to it’s slave class.

That’s the facts. It’s not going to be North versus South here. Because it will be your own locals who come along with Obama’s army to take what they requisition for themselves.

But we can choose to resist, and decide how we will go out. FOr that is the only real freedom we have left to us.

And eventually - tyranny even takes that away from it’s people.

What’s sad is only 3 states determined the outcome of this horrible election. My vote in California really didn’t count.

Looking at the numbers for Karl Rove’s 3-2-1 strategy, Romney actually won the popular vote by 29,000 in those 6 states but the distribution of votes changed the electorial college results.

(disclaimer: not an endorsement of Rove)

Maybe you're unaware of this, but agriculture is one of the major industries in NY state. It is THE MAJOR industry in PA, VT, OH, WI, CA, ...

The "Blue States" are in fact blue harbor cities along the coasts and the Mississsippi river. If the secession occurs along state lines (unlikely) the Blue States will have more of the food. There isn't much growing in WY or ND or the intermountain West. It's about water. Not space.

Oh, yes it will. Wait till the bills start coming due and no one will lend us the dough (the debt ceiling will be reached by the end of this year).

"What if they had a T-Bill auction and no one showed up?".

Remember in the Obama 2016 movie the assertion that Bronco’s desire was to get revenge and to make us feel the pain of the third world countries? Well, the cities of this country represent the modern “USA” cool people, sleek venues, penthouse apartments, etc. and the rural areas are sort of like the third world to those cities in that they plunder the resources, make fun of “backward ways” and want the bitter clingers to show up only when there is real work, dirt on the hands style to be done, people to be rescued, oil to be pumped, etc. Otherwise, rural areas are a joke to them. So, in some ways, “mission accomplished.”

If so there will be blood and the sort of actions seen in Syria is not impossible here.

I will say this in every one of these threads:

1) Dissolution is inevitable. You can't micromanage 300 million people.

2) People hankering for some sort of war or violence are idiots. What happens when you lose? Just keep the issue out there. Keep it on people's minds. Ultimately the natural dislike between the two groups will make the decision mutual and mutually beneficial.

This isn’t the 1850’s. By the outbreak of hostilites in 1861 we had two distinct cultures that had clear geographical and economic boundaries. The North and South were in effect two different countries.

Let them have their liberal socialist utopia up in the north east and west coast so long as they take all their nut obs, cross dressers, illegals and homosexual radicals.

I;m sick of them moving to states to push their socialist agenda

Division of the Nation would be the best way to handle the opposites that reside here. If global socialism lives, freedom dies. If freedom lives, global socialism dies.

Compare the average inner city to a suburb 20 miles away in the red states.

I honestly doubt we would see much violence. How many in our military want to fight Americans to uphold tyranny? Even if they don't agree with succession most will not have a principled belief in fighting for a broken and divided union. It's not the same time as our first civil war. I support that we attempt something like this to salvage anything we can of the nation we were meant to be, and I believe it's the only option we have with any chance of success; I don't believe it will be violent however, but with that said we must be willing to face whatever happens once we decide to take this road. Even if we fail it is our only choice, and that makes this an easy decision for me. We are collapsing, and need to do it on our own terms, and save what we can of the country our founders envisioned.
