As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending Congressional elections for the next couple of years.
I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we wont hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover, Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.
Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things, Perdue said.
North Carolina Republicans immediately scoffed at Perdues proposal, pointing out to her that elections hold politicians accountable for their actions. Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever, North Carolina GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood said in an email to The Daily Caller. To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that citizens have to hold politicians accountable: The right to vote.
Can’t we at least burn down the Riechstag first?
No, they don’t joke about sh*t like that.
She knows they’re going to get their asses handed to them and they’ll be dumped out into the street come election day, so, like all good fascist douchebags, she’s planting the seeds, testing the water, to see see what kind of reaction she’ll get.
NC folks should send the fascist hag a message loud and clear. Does NC have a recall option? And is the NC GOP ballsy enough to start that ball rolling?

The name “Purdue” means “Damned” or “Lost” in French.
Nope there is no recall.
Then maybe the thing to do is start pinging the NC GOP right away to start putting up billboards with this dumbass fascist broad’s face all over it, and her own words regarding suspending elections all over it, or renting TV time or radio air time...ANYTHING to capitalize on it.
She just handed them the best campaign weapon ever. I’m hoping they’re not too stupid to let it pass.
I think the Freepers that have speculated that she was fed this line are probably correct. Normally, the ditz seems to confine herself to state matters. By specifying “congress” (and not for example state house or state senate) she clearly stuck her nose into things that she a) doesn’t know anything about b) normally never deals with c) has no constitutional authority over.
Based on these considerations I would tend to agree with those that say that she was told to say this. The speech was in Cary, which is where I live.
Although it was clumsily done, this is no fluke.
The meme that we’re going through an unprecedented crisis because the Republicans are putting their party ahead of their country and are obstructing the success of Obama’s plans for a modern industrial nation is the main theme of Obama’s recent campaign appearances and his address to Congress (but I repeat myself).
Thomas Friedman of the NY Times, and to a lesser extent Paul Krugman, have both been pushing the idea that our representative government is getting in the way of the nation’s path to prosperity, interfering with the ability of serious leaders to solve serious problems. Their fawning admiration of dictatorship and one-party rule in China fits right in with Obama’s and Perdue’s goals.
The usual suspects are chiming in with their support, further emboldening their brash plans.
This is not an accident, rather these messages are coordinated, in the same way that nearly all Democratic talking points are coordinated. They can count on violent support from union thugs and anarchists alike.
The Commies clearly see that the 2012 elections pose a big obstacle to their collectivist dreams. The loss of Weiner’s seat has made them frantic. Are they really going to continue down that path? Do they really believe that they are going to get away with it?
Actually, there’s a rather simple rejoinder to this idiot crypto-fascist’s remark: “sure, Bev, we’ll suspend Congressional elections - right after we Republicans finish cementing in our majority in Congress.”
Even a liberal should be able to grasp the consequences of dictatorial government under those circumstances.
Did you see my post #38?-—thinking as you (especially, “This is not an accident, rather these messages are coordinated, in the same way that nearly all Democratic talking points are coordinated.”)
However, you have added some critical points in your excellent post.
Particularly important:
“Thomas Friedman of the NY Times, and to a lesser extent Paul Krugman, have both been pushing the idea that our representative government is getting in the way of the nations path to prosperity, interfering with the ability of serious leaders to solve serious problems. Suspending democracy, the mindset of almost all democrat politicians, the Governor is just stupid enough to admit it.
suspend elections? Heck,,let’s hold them EARLIER than scheduled!
We will have ALL elections as scheduled.
Period.
End of discussion.
Can you imagine the vitriol and headlines if Sarah Palin had said the exact same thing?
I’m not familiar with North Carolina laws, but isn’t this grounds for impeachment?
WHY THE HELL DON’T YOU START BY REPRESENTING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE???????????????????
He is sort of a she.
It has some sort of opening. Should be permanently shut.
Oooooooppss.... I was only joking! I'm obviously just using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem!!

Underlying this statement is that 'rats indeed have a notion to "fix" the current crisis, and know if they do it, they would have even LESS success at 2012 elections than they do now.
Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid!!!!
1) Wow, I guess I have to apologize to all those freepers insisting that American is "a Republic, NOT a democracy". If they're referring to North Carolina, they are in fact CORRECT! Isn't it GREAT when there are NO free elections, the people are NOT the ultimate source of authority, and the state can impose whatever it wants? They should be saluting the Governor of N.C. for standing for "states rights" and opposing the evil "democracy" and lowly little citizens. Maybe the other 49 states should follow her lead! Castro would be proud. Viva Revolución! < /sarcasm>
2) Once again I will remind freepers, North Carolina is the state that gave us Jesse Helms and voted Republican in 8 out of the last 10 presidential elections. Yet the RATs ran and elected this socialist b---- as Governor. Isn't it interesting how the idea that RINOs are "the best we can get" never works in reverse? None of the Democrats in heavily GOP states feel the need to DINOs so they can "electable". Hmmm.
