U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer has expressed a willingness to ban protesters from burning the Koran as the modern day equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater.
The Supreme Court has ruled burning the American flag in protest is protected speech under the First Amendment of the Constitution.
Breyer spoke to George Stephanopoulos on ABC's Good Morning America today:
But Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer told me on "GMA" that he's not prepared to conclude that -- in the internet age -- the First Amendment condones Koran burning.
Holmes said it doesnt mean you can shout 'fire' in a crowded theater, Breyer told me. Well, what is it? Why? Because people will be trampled to death. And what is the crowded theater today? What is the being trampled to death?
Breyer is promoting his new book, Making Our Democracy Work.
Breyer was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1994 by President Bill Clinton.
Have Koran sales increased dramatically lately and does Amazon sell mathces?
No, no, no, a thousand times NO.
Unless burning the American flag becomes illegal again.
Unless burning Christian Bibles becomes illegal again.
Unless saying prayers before football games becomes legal again.
I could go on and on.
Pastor who threatened to burn Qurans received tax break from St. Tammany?

“First Amendment doesn’t condone”
This doesn’t compute. I was unaware the Constitution “condoned” anything. It PROTECTS and PROVIDES a great deal, but a value judgment is required to condone something. Either something is free speech or it is not, it is not a matter of approving of the message.
He is the SCOTUS who voted against Dr. Paul Schenck (now Father Paul Schenck) in a case where it was claimed that Dr. Schenck blocked access to an abortion clinic by offering a woman a Bible.
The vote was 8-1 in Dr. Paul Schenck's favor.
ditto
Equating Muslims with irrational uncontrollable crowd behavior. (actually it fits, but we shouldn't cower from them)
Liberals are scared little wimps. They are not capable of running a great nation, that requires guts and nerve; the ability to play poker with despots without flinching.
No ban on Koran burning without bans on Bible, Cross, and US Flag burning.
“They are admitting that they only respect the threat of violence.”
That’s exactly right.
Next time an “artist” designs “Piss Christ,” Christians need to burn the art museum down, kill a few thousand liberals, hang a supreme court judge and blow up an airport.
I’ve got same paperclips for helicopters philosophy.....kept me alive . Red tape is get wussies...:o)
Don’t burn Korans, nuke Mecca instead!!!
We are already there.
So I guess what need be done is to begin rioting when someone burns a flag, removes a cross from a memorial, removes prayer from schools, Christmas decorations from the public square, Christmas songs from school programs, heck even the name Christmas vacation from our kids school schedule. I think the point is, the “NORMAL” American citizen needs to get some muscle together and quit following the rules as written. They are only there for suckers and fools I guess.
In a case I’m involved in in Federal Court here in Connecticut, the judge just ruled that just entering a church is an act of worship thus making all faith based programs unconstitutional.
I’m wondering if that will affect mail delivery.
May God have mercy on us all.
So when agents seized Indianapolis Baptist Temple a few years ago they were worshipping. So, when the building was given to the agents instead of the regular attenders is that the government preferring one group of worshippers over another?
