Look what they're erasing from U.S. history!

A state board of only 15 people will vote on whether to revise U.S. textbooks to omit references to Daniel Boone, Gen. George Patton, Nathan Hale, Columbus Day and Christmas.

The Texas State Board of Education will also vote on a proposal to substitute the term "American" with "global citizen."

Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, is warning Americans to speak up before only eight people, with a majority vote, have a chance to literally rewrite American history.

He appeared on the "Huckabee Show" to explain why the board's vote matters to the rest of America. Staver said Texas and California are the two largest textbook purchasers in the nation.

"Whatever textbooks they select affect the rest of the country because publishers publish those kinds of books, and the rest of the country follows," he said.

But because of California's budget crisis, the state hasn't been able to purchase as many new textbooks, he explained. So the default is Texas.

"So when this 15-member board – eight people of that will make a majority – make a decision, it will affect the entire nation," Staver said.

This is like when the Japanese revised their history books in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s to omit the reference of Pearl Harbor as the reason the United States went to war with Japan ...

To all home schoolers, I give you all kudos for being able to do so. You are helping create a better generation of children because of it and I do think it’s awesome. ;)

Just sayin’

Maybe, but no children will know of it.

Excellent story.

I’m sorry that she and her kids had to go through that.

The family whose case in NY was the pivotal point for homeschooling was just as intriguing.

It was a large family in a district which had a new superintendent start who was not interested in homeschooling.

As a result, they had an escape plan in place that they could get the children out of the state within hours and were ready for that.

I’ve heard of what the homeschool pioneers in our area went through and am just in awe of what they endured to secure OUR freedoms.

This story is a heads up for homeschoolers to make sure they check their textbooks really thoroughly before buying them. Some stories are heads up to legislation that may affect homeschoolers too. Some stories are just to keep us up to date on what is going on, or even because we’re enthusiasts on the subject of education.

Unfortunately, public schools are so viciously larded with marxist, homosexualist, leftist, racist and atheist junk - lies - that any child going to public school will be influenced. Plus all the “peer” influence of kids whose parent/s teach them nothing of value, let them watch total crap on TV and computer, listen to vile stuff, etc.

Add to that the sexual molesting going on with teachers (lots of it) and from other kids (ditto), it’s worth any sacrifice at all to teach them at home.

As an educator myself, this doesn't surprise me. Texas is the state that infamously had their history textbooks filled with inaccuracies that numbered about 5,000 specific falsehoods. Gems like: To end the KOREAN War the USA used the atomic bomb... That was the 1980s (IIRC).

More surprising and frightening is the possibility of changing the pledge from "American" to GLOBAL. Remember the series called "Left Behind?" about a "post rapture" world of the AntiChrist? The AntiChrist's kingdom on Earth was referred to as the "Global Community."

That's why I don't worry about the current corruption and helplessness of the United Nations. But I truly would fear what comes next. 'Course I won't be here to see it anyway. RAPTURE READY?

wouldnt you think that the VFW and other veterans groups in Texas would have enough pull to lobby the governor, who is running for re-election, to stop this nonsense?

If the fedgov and stategov quit taxing everyone to pay for schools, people like yourself would have a lot more money and it would thus be much easier to homeschool.

The liberals are pushing their agenda, just as the conservatives are doing - and yes, the children are the ones who suffer.

Are you saying that the two sides are at fault? Liberals and conservatives?

BTW I home schooled my own two (with great difficulty and sacrifice, I may add) and tutored or taught many other homeschooled kids. And even in the early 80s text books were full of total nonsense.

I think it is necessary.

For one thing, they need to know what’s going on in their state as well as the public school parents so at the very least, they don’t look like total idiots when some public school parent mentions it and they don’t know what the other PS parent is talking about.

Then there is the other aspect of the HS parent informing all the clueless PS parents who don’t pay attention to what is going on with their child’s education.

And there’s the perennial question of *Why do you homeschool?* to be answered. This gives them facts and a reason that could resonate with all but the most liberal parents who think that this kind of thing is either OK or not important.

IMO, pinging the ARTH list to this kind of situation is more important a reason to homeschool than many of the other issues I ping them to.

The reason to homeschool isn’t for the sake of convincing US.

It’s for examples to give others.

Well, if you ever reach a point where you think can homeschool, or decide that you need to, you can just ask and you’ll get more advice on how to get started than you’ll need.

Yes, I’ve seen some zingers even in some Christian textbooks.

BTW, I don’t know what others do, but my teen and I do discuss opposing opinions/theories in great detail. He reads current events daily. I want my kids to know what different people think, so they are able to dissect an issue, see it from all angles and come to conclusions about what is the most logical, is proven and is moral according to to our faith. I rarely, if ever, have to steer him towards the conservative conclusion on issues - it is a quite natural progression.

He is pretty effective at communicating these things with others, which I think is important to the future of our country

I also homeschooled - I’m saying that it totally depends on who is writing the article about this board. The Liberals claim it is full of conservative christians who don’t want anyone black, hispanic, or female even mentioned. If you read something from a conservative it appears that the liberals don’t want George Washington mentioned unless it is as a slave owner. I’m saying the articles are blowing this up into more than it really is - Texas has used this system for years and every time they do a curriculum change this exact same argument is brought up.
