Obama strikes back at budget critics
The Washington Times ^ | Saturday, February 28, 2009 | Jon Ward

President Obama on Saturday struck back aggressively at critics of his $3.6 trillion budget proposal, casting himself as a populist crusader whose "sweeping change" has angered Washington's entrenched special interests, and promised to fight them.

"I realize that passing this budget won't be easy. Because it represents real and dramatic change, it also represents a threat to the status quo in Washington," Mr. Obama said in his weekly video and radio address.

Mr. Obama's language was combative and confrontational, as he promised to fight for "American families."

"I know these steps won't sit well with the special interests and lobbyists who are invested in the old way of doing business, and I know they're gearing up for a fight as we speak. My message to them is this: So am I," he said.

Since he unveiled his budget blueprint on Thursday, the reaction in the financial markets and among the business community, not to mention the Republican party, has been decidedly negative.

Influential conservative economist Lawrence Kudlow wrote Friday that Mr. Obama was proposing "anti-growth" tax hikes that make "absolutely no sense" and are intended to promote a "left-wing social vision."

Mr. Obama, he said, was "declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds."

One day after announcing that U.S. combat troops would leave Iraq in 18 months, the president's weekly address was his first major response to budget criticisms. He portrayed critics as fat cats and power brokers who have enriched themselves at the cost of every day Americans.

America, what have you done!!

Obama has tapped into people's minds on a level I find hard to understand. Somehow he is able to suspend critical thinking in the minds of his followers.

During his campaign for the Whitehouse he was actually very overt about it. His rallying word was HOPE. Hopeful/Wishful Thinking The willing suspension of disbelief because of devout wishes and hopes.

He has continued this suspension of disbelief to the point of changing the foundations of our form of Government.

I guess with him taxpayers are some of those despised special interests.

So he's portraying his critics as those with "special interests"? It's true. I have some special interests, namely the Constitution and the Amendments.

Mr. Obama, he said, was “declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds.”

Why?

The question has to be asked:

Are you a) stupid, or: b) cruel?

What a great line! And it bears repeating:

He sounds more like an ACORN activist that a sitting US president. Which is understandable since ACORN activist was his top of the line job under the Peter Principle..

Hitler was big on “real and dramatic change”, too. 0bama doesn’t seem to understand that most such change is disastrous when it is as thoughtlessly conceived and carried out as he wants to do.

We are experiencing an efficient govt now, just what we all wanted. It is so efficient, it can spend 900 billion and not know what it will be spent on. Our fore fathers designed an inefficient govt.

“Mr. Obama identified the insurance industry, banks and student lenders, and oil and gas companies as part of the cabal opposing the new budget.”

Cabal?

Wow! These industries provide jobs for more people than the Federal Government could ever dream of providing (even though they would LOVE to try). To call it a CABAL shows me everything that I need to know about this President.

While I disagree with just about everything he does, Obama shows himself to be a truly gifted politician. He stands out in high contrast to the incompetent oaf of a politician that Bush was.

Why?

The Tenth Commandment...Thou Shall not Covet. Obama encourages Americans with all his might to break this Commandment. Obama uses the human weakness of ENVY very effectively, to get what he wants.... Socialism.

Everyday I wake up and hear or read the next train wreck coming down the tracks.

I hope we can all survive until 2010,2012.

Here’s an excerpt from a thread which has the entire booklet “The Revolution Was” - written in 1938 and talking about the new deal. The excerpt (well - the whole thing really) could have been written 71 years later!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/929392/posts

Excertps:

And so the first problem was solved. The seat of government was captured by ballot, according to law.

PROBLEM TWO
TO SEIZE ECONOMIC POWER

This was the critical problem. The brilliant solution of it will doubtless make a classic chapter in the textbooks of revolutionary technic. In a highly evolved money economy, such as this one, the shortest and surest road. to economic power would be what? It would be control of money, banking, and credit. The New Deal knew that answer. It knew also the steps and how to take them, and above all, it knew its opportunity.

It arrived at the seat of government in the midst of that well known phenomenon called a banking crisis.....

It is true that people wanted action. It is true that they were in a mood to accept any pain-killer.... and the President took advantage of it to make the first startling exposition of New Deal philosophy.....

But what it [emergency] meant to the President, as nobody then knew, was a very different thing. Writing a year later, in his book, On Our Way, he said: “Strictly speaking, the banking crisis lasted only one week.... But the full meaning of that word emergency related to far more than banks... It could be cured only by a complete reorganization and measured control of the economic structure....It called for a long series of new laws, new administrative agencies. It required separate measures affecting different subjects; but all of them component parts of a fairly definite broad plan.” [End of FDR quotes!]

And therein lay the meaning the only consistent meaning of a series of acts touching money, banking and credit which, debated as monetary policy, made no sense whatever.

.....that made everything legal after the fact: and it was the first use of Congress as a rubber stamp..... Congress did not write any of these acts. It received them from the White House and passed them.

He is definitely not fighting for American families

Yes, more like fighting them and I got the bruises to prove it. However, I'm not down for the count yet! With enough voices we will be heard.

That “incompetent oaf” you refer to was also guilty of the current economic situation by sanctioning the first round of TARP, and ignoring the warning signs that led to it, and he was wrong on immigration, after 8 years.

Our current “truly gifted politician” is wrong on so many different fronts I can't list them all here, and it's only been 6 weeks.

If I only had the 2 choices, I'd bring back the “incompetent oaf” over the “truly gifted politician”.

For me it's surreal. My hope is 2010 or impeachment. His pace towards socialistic reforms is staggering. We have a Senate top heavy with turn coat RINOs happy to rubber stamp anything Obama wants....surreal.

“I know these steps won’t sit well with the special interests and lobbyists who are invested in the old way of doing business, and I know they’re gearing up for a fight as we speak. My message to them is this: So am I,” he said.

He’s not being honest. The old capitalist way of doing business is one that works reaonably well. Individuals have incentive to take the necessary risks to produce goods and services. The ‘new’ socialist way that he is referring to has a track record of failure. The fact that he is unwilling to engage in honest debate and Congress is willing to ram this ‘new’ system down America’s throat is the most frightening part about this. He would never win an honest debate and he knows it.

i’d REALLY like to see the names of the 16 GOP representatives who voted for the Omnibus spending. They say it has 40% of the earmarks from the GOP. I want to know their names as well.
