Afghanistan to Ask NATO for Bigger Army

Afghan officials will go to the NATO summit in Romania Thursday with a request: pay to increase our national Army by 40 percent. A bigger Army, Afghan officials argue, will allow the US and other coalition members to scale back in the coming years.

This appeal comes amid pleas from the US and Canada for other NATO members to commit more to the Afghanistan mission, which many analysts say has floundered over the past year for lack of resources and a coherent strategy. France is expected to contribute another 1,000 forces and Germany is likely to make a bigger commitment.

But American and Afghan government sources with knowledge of the expected Afghan proposal say that an increase from the current authorization of 86,000 Afghan Army soldiers to 120,000 is the only way to create an enduring defense against a resurgent Taliban and elusive Al Qaeda operatives. Media: Time calls green “the new red, white and blue” and likens global warming to the fight against Nazism and fascism. As it insults World War II vets, the magazine seeks to impose a tyranny all its own.

We never cease to be amazed by the inability of the left to feel shame and its lack of reverence for America and those who defend its freedoms, including the right to be stupid.
The cover of the April 21 issue of Time, taking the famous Joe Rosenthal photo of Marines planting our flag on the blood-soaked island of Iwo Jima and replacing our flag with a tree, qualifies for obscenity of the year.

It echoes the greenie theme first advanced by Al Gore in his book “Earth In The Balance” that the internal combustion engine is the greatest threat in the history of mankind. Gore and Bill Clinton have both said that global warming is ultimately a greater threat than terrorism.

That, admitted Time managing editor Richard Stengel, was the thinking behind the cover story. “One of the things we do in this story,” he said last week on MSNBC, “is we say there needs to be an effort along the lines of preparing for World War II to combat global warming and climate change.”

This trivializing of the sacrifice of American blood and treasure to defend freedom ignores the fact that in World War II we faced a real enemy with a terrible agenda. The bombs that fell on Pearl Harbor were quite real, not the output of some badly fed computer model.

A U.S. commercial satellite has found a huge underground runway being built in eastern North Korea, a news report said yesterday.

A photograph provided by “Google Earth,” a U.S. provider of satellite photos, showed that North Korea is building a 30-meter (98-foot) wide and 1,800-meter-long military runway at a site southwest of Wonsan, the U.S. government-funded radio station Voice of America said.

“The cement-coated airstrip stretches southwestward from the northeast and is connected to a mountain tunnel,” the report said. “Around the runaway are stacks of soil and rocks dug out from the tunnel, which tells the construction work is now underway.”

The report quoted Park Myong-ho, a former North Korean air force captain who defected to South Korea in May 2006, as saying the facility is highly likely to be an underground military airstrip being constructed by North Korea’s military.

Park said the North’s fighter jets are supposed to strike targets in South Korea if a war breaks out and return to reserve air bases after finishing the strikes. “This underground facility is such a place,” he said.

North Korea has two to three similar underground runways, but all of them are obsolete, he said.

MND-B Soldiers detain suspected Special Groups cell leader in Abu T’shir

FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq – Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad, detained a suspected Iranian-backed Special Groups cell leader April 17.

The individual is believed to be responsible for attacks in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad.

The capture occurred during on-going operations in the Abu T’shir community of the Rashid district.

“The operation has been going extremely well,” said Maj. Dave Olson, a 1st Brigade Combat Team spokesman. “The soldiers continue to conduct clearing operations in the Rashid district to create a safe and secure environment for the district’s 1.2 million residents. We will target and bring to justice those criminals who disregard the rule of law and who obviously have no regard for the welfare of innocent Iraqi citizens.”

Coalition forces detain four suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists (Samarra)

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces detained four suspected terrorists during operations targeting alleged associates of al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders southwest of Samarra and in south Baghdad Friday.

In southern Baghdad, Coalition forces secured a building and detained a suspect allegedly involved in the procurement of bomb-making materials, including components for suicide vests.

Coalition forces also received information on another terrorist suspect in the area. While the ground force secured the suspect’s building, a woman and child nearby received minor injuries. The child was treated on scene and returned to the family, and Coalition forces transported the woman to a local medical center for additional medical care.

Intelligence reports led Coalition forces to a building southwest of Samarra where they secured the area and detained three suspects.

“Our operations continue to target the terrorists who want to disrupt the peaceful future of Iraq,” said Maj. Brad Leighton, Multi-National Force - Iraq spokesman.

MND-B AWT crew kills two criminals

BAGHDAD – A Multi-National Division—Baghdad aerial weapons team killed two criminals in eastern Baghdad April 19.

At approximately 3 a.m., the AWT was conducting an aerial surveillance patrol when the crew saw two criminals with a mortar tube. The AWT engaged the criminals with one hellfire missile and killed the criminals. The mortar tube was also destroyed.

There have been numerous mortar and rockets attacks originating from eastern Baghdad in the past two days.

“Our primary mission is to protect the Iraqi people from terrorists and criminals, “ said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, MND-B and 4th Infantry Division spokesman. “This we will do in order to enforce the rule of law in full partnership with the Iraqi Security Forces.”

I got mugged once too, in Denver. I was lightly injured when my assailant grabbed at my shoulder strapped purse. There were people all around, but people just watched in shock. He ran with the purse, but my husband chased after him until he tossed the purse and continued running to his home, where police found him panting behind the door. I ID'd him from a mugshot.

Good for you, MD. I'm glad they got him.

My well-known-crack-head received 8 months because he was caught having sold my stolen property to a pawn shop, (a piece of jewelry that the Toronto Police returned to me.), and he was probably out in 2.

He caught the kids and I coming out of a restaurant after dark, waited for me to open the car doors, and then shoved a gun in my face, and demanded my purse.

I was taught to cooperate, so I released my purse, and he ran.

A moment or two passed, and then I ran. After him, screaming at him, calling him names, and, I was actually catching up to the guy.

At this point something kicked in.........Er, Fan, what are you going to do if you catch him?

LOL.

I didn't carry a purse for a while, and then I realized that I should. If a mugger wants my purse, he can have it, but unless he wears Dior 286, he will have risked everything, for nothing. If he grabs my empty purse, it may be that I save some other lady who "keeps all her stuff in her purse", from a mugging.

Never before that day had I thought about how a purse is a flashing beacon, screaming out...

"Here's all my stuff, every thing I value in the world!"
