Timco Worldwide Inc. announced a voluntary recall on its Sundia brand cantaloupes, saying the melons potentially are contaminated with salmonella.
Woodland, Calif.-based Timco Wednesday said 504 cartons of the melons, which were grown in Mexico, were distributed in Phoenix; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dallas and Okeechobee, Fla., between Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. Routine sampling of the products, conducted at the border by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, showed the presence of the salmonella organism in a portion of the cantaloupes. Timco hired third-party testers, who did not find the bacteria when they sampled the same lot of produce.
Salmonella can cause serious illness in young children and frail or elderly people, or anyone with a weak immune system. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Only Timco-packed Sundia cantaloupes are being recalled -- the melons are distributed by other companies as well. Customers who purchased the melons can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Timco distributes 200 million pounds of produce a year; this is the company's first recall in 22 years of business. The company packs its produce in Arizona.
Consumers can contact Timco at 530-668-9966.
Pelosi's fault.
I'm going out to look at my garden now. All we're getting is radishes, but the spinach, collards and turnips are coming along slowly but surely.
I look at the fresh produce at the grocery store and think "Gross." I hate canned, but that's what we're eating till the garden produces.
We just finished off the last of our tomatoes...I brought the green ones in before the first frost and they all turned red and tasted just fine.
"I look at the fresh produce at the grocery store and think "Gross." I hate canned, but that's what we're eating till the garden produces."
Surprisingly little known fact is that the farmworkers urinate and defecate in the fields they work. They did the same at one of the Container Yards I used to work years ago. The illegals "situation" (to use a Pelosiism) in America concerns us in that matter as well.
We've had an increase in all sorts of diseases recently inclusive of E-Coli of which Shigella, and Salmonella are related. This is not a good thing.
LOL We didn't have "Farmworkers" at the Container Yard I worked at years ago, but we had people from that background working there is what I meant...SHEESH missed that boo boo while proofing...sorry.
"saying the melons potentially are contaminated with salmonella."
Firstly: You can recall cantaloupes?
Secondly: Melons can have salmonella?
That just sounds odd to me. But live and learn, I guess.
What's next..Spaghetti Squash?
Looks like we're on our way to completely decimating the entire domestic product industry. Then we can import ALL our vegetables from overseas.
Make that PRODUCE, not product.
I just do not buy anything grown in mexico.

I have a produce stand and I sometimes sell Mexican tomatoes, squash, or strawberries if I cannot buy American grown.
If people ask where it came from and I say Mexico...they walk away. Most of the time I cannot get California garlic, so I sell garlic from China, same thing happens. But Canadian produce people will buy. American grown, people will always buy and, of course, produce grown by local farmers sells THE best.
From this link:
What sort of germ is Salmonella? The Salmonella germ is actually a group of bacteria that can cause diarrheal illness in humans. They are microscopic living creatures that pass from the feces of people or animals, to other people or other animals. There are many different kinds of Salmonella bacteria. Salmonella serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella serotype Enteritidis are the most common in the United States. Salmonella has been known to cause illness for over 100 years. They were discovered by a American scientist named Salmon, for whom they are named.
Ick.
How is it that we can find a few inbound, contaminated cantaloupes from Mexico (as we found a few inbound, contaminated grapes from Chile--pronounced 'chee-lay' per Dan Rather & Tom Brokenjaw--some years back that brought Gen Pinochet out into the streets of Santiago begging other countries to resume imports) BUT we CANNOT, try as we may, discover little more than a nano-fraction of the tons of imported illegal narcotics pouring in?
