All my life, I believed in Republican values -- individual responsibility and limited government. Then it happened; I found myself with a small child, unemployed and disabled. I turned to my church, and after years of regular tithes, suddenly I just wasn't their problem. My Republican friends? I was now a pariah to them.
My only relief was to turn to government assistance for housing, food, and other needs and I was able to survive with dignity.
So chalk me up as one who no longer drinks the GOP koolaid.
Sigh, another newbie opus.

Funny thing....
I was a democrat...until I found myself a single mother of 3....a teen boy and 2 girls an 18 month old and a 9 month old...you can imagine child care costs....not to mention my husband was a dead beat....
I put myself through school scrubbing toilets and mowing lawns....had a 4.0 GPA...was even student of the year and went to state competitions.....
The Libs wanted me to be and stay a victim....my conservative friends helped me by encouraging me in ways to change my life, be better and stronger...
my conservative friends showed me that I actually had a part in getting myself into this tough spot- which means I have CONTROL over getting out- and in NEVER GOING BACK to such a terrible situation....
I relied on GOD to get me through and do the things I could not.....not the GOV'T......
Now- I am still a single mother- dead beat is still a deadbeat....but I am no longer a VICTIM- and I LOVE MY LIFE!
I will never go back to the leftist VICTIM for them to pander to and use....NEVER!

I am as hard right as anyone on this forum.
I contribute greatly financially and time-wise to folks in need including many of whom I diverge on their lifestyle and/or political persuasions or simply folks I have nothing in common with.
I am generous to a fault with folks I know personally in need. That is really the best place to help.
Likewise, every conservative church I know helps out like crazy for folks in need.
So...I'm sorry but your tirade that the GOP or conservatives in general won't help is simply wrong in my opinion.
Liberals talk about doing good things, or have nice thoughts about helping and feel self righteous doing so or use the money of others to help.
Conservatives don't talk about it and use their own money and time.
Big difference.
It's too much hassle to emmigrate to another country before coming back.

As for your church..they don't support people monetarily on a permanent basis, they are in the spiritual business so I don't get it. But your friends?...time to get new ones.
