Ordinarily, I think jury awards in the millions over minor events are a pox on our system. But this goes to the heart of whether a citizen is free in this country to go about one's normal business without being assaulted. This was not a young woman -- older women's bones break easily. If the facts are as presented here, I hope they sue for megabucks -- and win.

I would have loved to see that guy try to jurk me or any of my family out of a car when old "Jocko" my Aussie Shepard was still alive. The cop would have been the one running into traffic with Jocko right behind him.

"Now I really need to move."
You and me both. Hubby doesn't want to move because of his mom being old. I can't blame him for that. But I am really starting to hate New Jersey. Anyone can see why, from reading this article and others like it. This state is becoming a third world sink hole. And the pols don't care, dem or pubbie they are all the same in this state. And NY is just even worse.

I often take one of our dogs along when I go to the grocery store in the evening, you know how they love hanging their heads out into the wind..., but I'd never do it on a hot day with the Sun shining.
One thing that the article does clearly state is that this takes place on Sunday night, so the cop-dude's whole premise would be DOA if that's true.

And what jail gave you access to the Internet? Or are you on parole?
What a completely stupid comment.

WTF is a Dept of Human Services police officer? The precursor of the thought police enforcers. There are too many control freaks in government. Some of the worst are sociologists and psychologists. They con people into believing they are useful. Mostly what they want are jobs they believe, as "intellectuals," they are fit for. They do the "caring" work no one would ever pay for in the private sector.
This country needs a good house cleaning. A thorough one.

Sexton should be executed. He should be put down like one would a rabid dog.
To: Cicero
I agree on how poorly this was written. It mentions he was fired after 22 years for trying to arrest a superior officer. What was the story behind that? Is it relevant? If not why include it?
Also, why did the dog die? Did the dog overheat in the car because she was in there for two hours? What is the story? If everyone was standing around, why?
This article would be turned down by most high school papers.

The dog died after being run over in traffic. How it got out of the car is unclear.
