German and U.S. scientists have launched a project to reconstruct the Neanderthal genome, the Max-Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology said Wednesday.

The project, which involves isolating genetic fragments from fossils of the prehistoric beings who originally inhabited Europe, is being carried out at the Leipzig-based institute.

"Firstly, we will learn a lot about the Neanderthals. Secondly, we will learn a lot about the uniqueness of human beings. And thirdly, it's simply cool," Rubin said.

Thanks for your comments and clarification. I agree. And, btw, I think this debate is a perfect example of what your screen name refers to. :-)

My Great Grandmother died in 1938 at 88, five feet of Scots terror, lie, she was the town midwife and a caring woman, delivered about half of Summit, Uninta and Duchesne Counties in her time.

I hardly think it necessary to bring the singer Dido into this debate.

p.s. You also wrote "with" instead of "which".

Not to mention his hatred of the Hebrews, or in his words, "supersticious [sic], desert wandering, bronze age, goat herding, sandle [sic] wearers."

There is no reason to separate the gene dna unless you intend to create one, is there?

You could study the genome without trying to clone a neanderthal.

What better way to INVENT the missing link to a flawed and failed THEORY that has become twisted fact in the minds of so many around the world. Don't have the facts...INVENT them and say "Oh yes, this is what it would have looked like!"

Since Neandertal is not considered a "Missing Link" or an ancestor of modern man by any modern evolutionist, I believe you are full of paranoid shit.

"... and failed THEORY that has become..."

You capitalized "theory" as if it meant something less than experimentally tested data. You DO understand that gravity, atomic energy and bacteriology are all studied and explained with theories don't you? You do understand the difference between a theory and a hypothesis, don't you?

Don't you?

Our ancestors went to great lengths to kill off the Neanderthals. We should trust their judgment.

That is the wittiest thing I've read today. The beer's on me tonight. Buy yourself one and I'll owe you.

Now that comparison is just scary. And you know the last Neanderthal holdouts in Europe were in Iberia - and Terayza is Portuguese. ;)

"English on the cue ball" is a nice descriptor. I've used the term "spin" but your description is better. God as Minnesota Fats. Now I'll think of Jackie Gleason every time I think of the Creation. ;^)

hoping there'd be a lot of future, coed combat involving river crossings.

Here's some current coed's, on July 4th 2005.

This is Psyops at Baghdad. :-)

Pi** on Kennedy, and his type. Kudos to the great soldiers of the United States.

Love this picture. Just wanted to post it again. ;-)
