I have been interested in human migrations for many years. One of the markers of a population is the distribution of a blood type among a given population.
I got interested in this because the blood type distribution in the UK is nearly 50/50 A/O, a small sample has other blood types.
My dear old Ma is Black Irish and is A/B, not a common blood type in the part of Ireland where her family originated.
Click on the link for distributions.

My appearance, my known heritage, and my blood type (B) do not corelate well. I guess my redhaired neandertal roots are showing.

Hubby was 100% Czech, and his blood type was O+. From the map, it looks like it's a sure thing for him. That would also mean that about 90% of the full-blooded Czechs who live in this area are also Type O. Interesting...

You've gotta see
The Blue People Of Troublesome Creek. Blam posted that link, and shows once again why he deserves to have his own topics. ;')
Type O means coding for no blood protein (this is a separate issue from Rh factor), and given its apparent mutation from A, O is a newer type (those books about "Eating Right for Your Blood Type" notwithstanding), as is B, and of course Bombay syndrome. AB results from a mating of A and B (one from each parent), and is about 5 per cent of the population That 40/40/15/5 breakdown doesn't take into account the MN family of course.
MN comes from the Indian subcontinent somewhere. Probably Blam's SundaLand refugees were MN, arrived there, and are now nearly extinct. :'D

Heh... leave it to you to make trouble.
Weirdly enough, everyone has hemoglobin.
You'd think that females would have shemaglobin.

Where exactly did your AB mother live in Ireland? I'm AB-, my mother's family came from Ireland but I don't know which county and have no clue where to start looking. Thanks!
I looked at the linked maps and cannot see ABs in Ireland at all.
