[history]
Newsweek's false, retracted story about American guards flushing the Koran down a toilet at Guantanamo doesn't necessarily mean the magazine's staff hates America or Bush, or wants us to lose in Iraq. To be charitable, let's just chalk that one up to sloppy journalism.
But I'm at a loss to explain this, from the February 2 issue of Newsweek's Japanese edition:
As you can see, the cover story shows an American flag, dirtied and tossed in a trash can, its staff snapped in two. The large white text reads, "Amerika ga shinda hi", which translates to "The day America died."
The equivalent international edition of Newsweek, the January 31 issue, featured a picture of Bush on the cover, with the caption "America Leads ...But is Anyone Following?": Both of the above editions featured a cover-story article by Andrew Moravcsik, titled "Dream on, America". (This was translated into Japanese as "Yume no kuni Amerika ga kuchihateru toki", which is even harsher; it means, roughly, "America, the dream country, is rotting away".) According to Newsweek itself, the article described "the world's rejection of the American way of life."
Moravcsik's article did not run in the American edition of that same issue. The cover was also a bit different. It featured Hilary Swank, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx, with the title "Oscar Confidential:
If you look carefully, you'll see that one of the articles from the other two editions is mentioned in a small blurb at the top: Fareed Zakaria's "High Hopes, Hard Facts" here billed as "A reality check on Bush & 'Freedom'". Sure, they put scare quotes around "Freedom", but pretty tame stuff, all things considered.
It's one thing for Newsweek to actively promote the notion that America is a "dead", "rotting" country overseas. But it's quite another thing indeed to hide those efforts from its American readers. If Newsweek really thinks America is dead, and our flag belongs in the trash, why won't it tell us?
If I were to offer Newsweek a suggestion, it would be this: Any story or cover you're ashamed to run in America probably shouldn't be used in other countries, either. Source

CNN does the same thing. I've watched in both Asia and Europe. As bad as they are in this country, they are even more vicious outside of it. They must not realize that millions of American's are living in the ME and overseas. And many of them feel just like we do.
And it's just a matter of time before this news gets to us in the States. So they sure aren't making any bones about hiding this disgusting news. If they feel this way, they should get the hell out of the U.S.!
NewsREEK should be forced out of the United States if this is how they actually feel about reporting these disgusting articles about America. I am sick and tired of these idiots making money in the U.S. and then turning around to stick it to us.

That happened to me. I totally misread an article and made a mistake in posting one sentence. I got suspended before I could get the "I'm sorry, made an error" post up. Fortunately a Freepr friend wrote a post like you are doing. It got corrected within a day or so.

Thanks, but an emphatic NO to anything that can be considered 'sabotage' --- It's a slippery slope and would make us hypocrites to raise a moral issue when the Left does it.
Focus on boycotting the advertisers and getting people to cancel subscriptions and being sure people KNOW the truth about the different issues for different audiences.

Well, if his "crime" is that he hold opinions that the USA is "guilty"...AND...as long as he doesn't take the many baited replies from the usual suspects in here who like to gang up on anyone with a minority view...IMO we should continue to supply facts to dispell his assertions.
This is a powerful site and shouldn't be afraid of a dissenting poster.
Furthermore, IMO it's enlightening to see some Freepers shoot down his opinions. Who doesn't run into or have a relative or friend with Paul_fromatlanta's views?

Please....
They are a money making organization. They will do or say
anything to raise up your interest so you can BUY or SUBSCRIBE
to their magazine...The news is secondary, truth is quaternary...
Stop buying Newsweek, stop quoting newsweek. Stop buying Time,
stop quoting Time. They are multinationals not interested
in necessarility maintaining the American market.
They are totally useless for information access in todays
world. They know it, and are trying to get as much interest
or money before they fold.
Note: A friend of mine gave me a gift subscription to Time
mag. I now found out I can read it at my mailbox, and toss
it out. I have heard of, or have read about most of the stories
they have in there(news stories)...the rest is fluff which
I scan to see if there is some interesting info...
That's how good the mag is...tossed out at the mailbox...
It is time to toss out the MSM. Period. Cancel all "profit"
centered news reports, reporter, TV baloney etc...get your
news from proven providers with no AXE to grind, even if it
means 1-2 sources(if possible)...kiss the MSM off...

...why do they continue to flood across our borders?...
exactly! and why were millions of Iraqis and Ukranians willing to risk their lives to vote to bring freedom ...the freedom encouraged by American President George Bush....to their countries?

I long ago stopped reading Newsweek, or news "weak", as some have called it.
But now I'll NEVER read that rag again!

It would seem Newsweek's loyalty is to anyone but Americans. The further away their audience (and publishing houses) are, the more venomous they are towards America.

Newsweek is on the terrorist side. Enough said!

See my post 224.
It looks like we DO have international PR. The problem is our public relations is not coming from the White House.
Why give billions in foreign aid when our publications are neutralizing our efforts?
