Last Thursday, The Drudge Report touted an exclusive report that John Kerry biographer Douglas Brinkley was rushing to publish in The New Yorker a corrected version of Kerry's seared memory of being in Cambodia on Christmas Day, 1968.
However, The New Yorker's press release issued today for their next issue, dated August 23, 2004, contains no mention at all of the piece by Brinkley.
Hmmm....still in rewrite, perhaps?

"I already covered for you once, now where's the evidence that you were in Cambodia in January?"
Well he has this hat that says " I violated Cambodian Waters and All I Got Was This Lousy Hat"

cambodia has become too obvious a lie, and thus too hot to handle, even for the new yorker.

Brinkly is pissed that the title "Swimming to Cambodia" is already taken.

Must be running the stories past the rest of the newsroom and seeing which one gets the fewest laughs.

Kerry is all too willing to throw Brinkley over the side of the swift boat. This new article is going to get plenty of scrutiny on the blogs. Brinkley is a complete idiot if goes along with this game.

If Kerry can't give a verifiable date and sear it anew into his mind he is going to be the next inventor of the Internet.

Yes.
Last week someone posted that Tony Snow said there were 9 versions of the Christmas in Cambodia story that had already been floated.
At least one or two more can be added to that total.
[It would be interesting to see of them, side by side, with variations shown.]

"It would be a difficult authoring task--to reconcile some 50 previous statements by Kerry about his Christmas in Cambodia 1968, while Nixon [who wasn't sworn in until January 20, 1969] is sending secret troops to Cambodia."
"On more than one occasion, I, like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now, took my patrol boat into Cambodia. In fact, I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."
John Kerry wrote his Review for "Apocalypse Now" on Oct 14, 1979 in the Boston Herald

The difficulty in lying now is that whatever pathetic cover they attempt now is going to be scrutinized by 250 witnesses who were there. The Band of Traitors is being stretched real tight!!
He has a flat tire on his $7,000 bike yesterday and windsurfing at the windiest spot on earth and no wind for his sails!! He must be starting to feel the heat??

Do you think Brinkley would jump ship at this point in order to save his own skin ..??
I mean .. I think this constant rewrite is making Brinkley look very bad .. even though the information he was given may have been tainted. Isn't an historians job to interview and then find the TRUTH. Evidently, Brinkley didn't bother with the opinions of anyone else.

Hey, you can't sear things in your brain overnight. They need to allow for some searing time. That's true, and besides that, he would have to preheat the grill with the lid closed first.

"Witness the anti-gun historian from Vanderbilt who lost both his reputation and position for such a fault."_________________________________________________________________
Will you settle for Emory? ;-)
Michael Bellesiles (the "Fraud") was a highly regarded historian at Emory University in 2000, when he published the book in its first edition with Vintage. The work's basic thesis was that early Americans were far less dependent upon, skillful with, and inclined to use firearms than the NRA would have you believe. The book's evidence was thrown into question, the author shamed, and publication discontinued in 2003.
As more and more liberal academics are exposed as liars and frauds, it becomes increasingly difficult to remember who came from Emory, who came from Holyoke, who came from fill-in-the-blank. We probably need a super-computer that can handle a massive database for this.

the campaign took two days off, today and tomorrow, just to address this emerging catastrophe... Kerry will pull some stunt at the VFW on Wednesday to try to "put this past all of us, so that we can look to the future with unity."
You watch, the RATS are up to something that smells, the MSM will peddle it from sunup to sundown.
