Election: It's the Cat People vs. the Dog Lovers Written by Burt Prelutsky Sunday, August 15, 2004

All the pundits who are forecasting the November election, busily analyzing blue states, red states, and those all-important purple swing states, are spinning their wheels. At the risk of sounding even more presumptuous than usual, I contend that they are wasting their time and yours. If you want to know who's going to emerge victorious, all you really need to do is find out how many people have cats living with them and how many have dogs. The cat people, I have decided, will go overwhelmingly for Kerry; the dog lovers will do the same for Bush. It isn't simply that women, who often prefer felines to canines, tend to vote Democratic. It really goes to the nature of the animals........

I know this isn't the one you're looking for, but I like it.

And it doesn't matter what pets you have, right? They'll all vote with you.

Thank you both.

Yes - I'll be the bragging mommy - she is a pretty cute kid and smart, too!!!

When asked what we were doing at the FReep in Norfolk her answer was "to make fun of John Kerry because he wants to take President Bush's job."

Oh, those babies are sooooooooooooooooo cute!!!!

They are three of a litter of ten(!) sired by my male, Atlas (who is 3 years old); average litter size for Weimaraners is around seven. Often with an unusually large litter, you lose a couple, or have a runt or two, but not so in this case. They were born April 30, and were four weeks old in the pic. They were born 200 miles from me, so I only saw them a couple of times before they went to their various new homes, but all were doing well at last report.

That is an insult to any cat loving conservative. We have two cats AND we support President Bush.

Also, if you have both cats and dogs in a household, the cats will ALWAYS be the boss while the dogs will yield. (Think Garfield and Odie) :)

Sounds true to me:

A dog’s favorite toy is a ball. A cat’s is either a living mouse or a toy filled with catnip, his drug of choice.

A dog will dive into a raging river to save a stranger’s life. A cat wouldn’t step into a puddle to save yours.

My very first dog was a Daschund - well actually it wasn't mine, it was my grandfather's - and actually she wasn't his, he and I were hers. She was 3 days older than me and never let anyone come near me. My mother would take us both to the park and when crossing the street would put the dog in the carriage. No one ever put their finger in the carriage to the baby a second time - even as a puppy that dog was my protector!!!!

I had a Pomeranian that was that way. She lived to be 16 years old and never weighed over five pounds. She thought she was a 120lb Rotty and would take the finger off anybody that messed with my daughter. LOL

My dog, the most loving dog to whom I have ever been a dog daddy, is half chocolate lab and half weimeraner. When I'm good to him, he lets me have a third of the bed.

I own the sire of the pups in the pic (three of the litter of ten are pictured). If I had a buck for each time someone asked me if Atlas was a Lab, I'd be -- well, not rich, maybe, but in better financial condition than I am now. I've never thought the two breeds looked that similar, and they're not related in the least, but their personalities are certainly similar in many ways. Not the most well disciplined dogs, perhaps, but eager to please, and unfailingly gentle with kids, old people, and small dogs.
