JANUARY -- NOT CHRISTMAS -- KERRY IN CAMBODIA (More Flip-Flop Spin!)
Drudge Report ^ | 8/12/04 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 08/12/2004 7:13:16 PM PDT by wagglebee

**Exclusive**

TOUR OF DUTY author and John Kerry historian Doug Brinkley is rushing a piece for the NEW YORKER: to set-the-record-straight on Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia tale, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry has turned to author Brinkley for a "modification" after it was exposed that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas of 1968, as he once claimed from the Senate floor.

The Brinkley piece for the NEW YORKER will now say that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas, but rather in January, publishing sources tell DRUDGE.

MORE

Since the early 1970s, Kerry has spoken and written of how he was illegally ordered to enter Cambodia. Kerry mentioned it in the floor of the Senate in 1986 when he charged that President Reagan’s actions in Central America were leading the U.S. in another Vietnam. Here’s what he said as excerpted from the new book, UNFIT FOR COMMAND:

"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."

John O’Neil’s, author of UNFIT FOR COMMAND, comments on the “clarification:”

“John Kerry describes Christmas Eve in Cambodia as a critical turning point in his life. We now know that his story is completely false. My question is how many people do you know have invented a turning point, one that is seared in his memory? While it makes sense for John Kerry to come clean about the Cambodia story, it is one of several tales that the Kerry campaign will have to face and clarify.”

“By claiming we were engaged in a war crime and crossing international borders, John Kerry damaged the credibility of all the commanding officers above him and insulted the sailors who served with him,” said John O’Neill, member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.”

Nixon had US troops invade in April 1970; in 1969 there was bombing of Camboadian supply lines.

Wasn't Brinkley a protege of a plagiarist? If my recollection is correct, how could we expect him to know how to source his claims?

I can finally, after all these years, tell my true story. I remember it well, being there the day Nixon was inaugurated. He personally radioed me on my wrist radio and told me to invade Cambodia. "Kerry", he said, "I've got a super top secret mission for you".

Kerry Cambodia story 3.1(1).

You know, something folks seem to be missing. Let us say for sake of arguement that Kerry was ordered to Cambodia (of course I don't believe that but whatever). If he received such orders, then there would be a record of them unless it was a classified mission. If it was unclassified, where are the records. If it was classified, he has broken the law by revealing the mission - unless it was later unclassified - meaning the records would be available. So, by sticking to the Cambodian assertion, Kerry is either a liar - because the records don't back him up - or he is a traitor because he has revealed classified information and should be prosecuted.

The plain truth is he is a tall tale teller that got caught in one of his sea tales. This is the man that claims Bush lied about WMDs in Iraq. What kind of lies is Kerry capable of?

Listening to Tony Snow today he stated that there are 9 different versions of this story from the Kerry camp.

Wouldn't you love to ask Kerry, "Were you telling the truth then or are you telling the truth now?"

Kerry has dug himself such a deep hole that he wouldn't know the truth if it hit him up alongside of the head.

If Edwards can channel the dead, why is it so hard to believe that Kerry can see the future?

I mean, I believe Kerry's story....

(geez, couldn't keep a straight face on that one for even one second...)

Well, you know, it could've been Orthodox Christmas, which is celebrated on January 6.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

He's already had to "modify" this book about 10 times.

Sort of like how Kerry is having to "modify" (read PURGE) his web site almost daily because of the revelations that are coming out about his military records. Yesterday there was a big discussion about how the January '69 Spot Reports went missing from Kerry's web site because it came out that Kerry was claiming credit for Swift Boat PCF 94 military operations even before he became captain of it on January 29th, 1969. The Spot Report for January '69 had Kerry's name doing everything that month on PCF 94, even though in reality a guy name Peck was skipper for the whole month, until he was replaced on the 29th.

So let me get this straight. Now we are suppose to believe that Nixon ordered troops into Cambodia within 10 of taking office.

I believe it was April or early May of 1970. The Kent State riots of May '70 were in response to the incursion...

Should know that I was 35 mi away but a child at the time. I do recall the weather was warm

February 1969
In spite of government restrictions, President Nixon authorizes Operation Menu, the bombing of North Vietnamese and Vietcong bases within Cambodia. Over the following four years, U.S. forces will drop more than a half million tons of bombs on Cambodia.

Kerry got all mixed up when he confused our New Year's day with the Chinese New Year. Perfectly natural mistake. </joking>

So the cambodians were celebrating TET? In Full metal Jacket, Joker mentions that Tet, 1968, bringing in "the year of the monkey" doesn't the chinese new year happen quite some time after the traditional Jan 1st?
