Will Kerry's supporters stop at nothing?
The cover of the new anti-Kerry book, Unfit for Command, set to hit shelves soon, has been given an alternative, pro-Kerry cover at the Barnes & Noble online store. The title of the book has been changed to Fit for Command, and the cover image has been changed from a close-up of a finger-pointing Kerry to a picture of Kerry in uniform with other Vietnam veterans. (The book currently sits at #7 on the Barnes & Noble Top 100 and at #2 on Amazon.)
The book, which challenges the "war hero" status of John Kerry's four months in Vietnam, was a part of a major firestorm last week as portions of the book were first revealed by The Drudge Report and a new anti-Kerry advertisement from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth -- a "527" group of which the author of Unfit, John O'Neill, is a member -- was first reported by Human Events Online. Following the Human Events exclusive, a letter from DNC and Kerry lawyers to various TV stations attempting to intimidate them into blocking the ad from the airwaves was also exclusively revealed by Human Events Online.
Though no information on the source of the cover change has been found, the latest tactic from the pro-Kerry crowd -- whether from a computer hacker or an employee of Barnes & Noble -- can hardly be considered surprising.

Good catch by somebody to spot that.
Is this a joke?
We are in Soviet territory, folks!!!
call BN and raise Hell.
Are they really selling books with that cover? Can you really just change something like that? As if this whole topic wasn't odd enough...
Welcome to FR.
That is just crazy. B&N just lost a lot of customers.
This is one for Brit Hume's grapevine.
Not surprising. A Conservative caller to Tammy Bruce stated that he had been to Barnes and Noble, Borders and online to Amazon. Kerry's book from the 70's,THE NEW SOLDIER, where the cover is of four Dirtbags desecrating the flag, could be purchased, but was not on display. You could not buy the cover.

On right side.
No, B&N has it right. Amazon had it wrong.
Want to see something that complicated this issue? When Kranish was contracted to write the introduction, the in-progress book was issued an ISBN, or unique machine-readable identification number, of 1586483145.
According to the publisher, Public Affairs, when it struck a deal to publish the campaign's platform, it dropped its plans to publish the book with Kranish's introduction.
Then they published Kerry's campaign book. As a FreeRepublic reader has noted, the Kerry-Edwards campaign book, has an ISBN of...
...1586483145.
The upshot? The publisher, Public Affairs, has just created a big headache for the Globe and Michael Kranish, by initially touting an independent book with a reporter covering Kerry involved, and then publishing Kerry's campaign book under the same number. Now Amazon has the new book with the old cover and Kranish is being called a Kerry campaign shill.
Kranish may have misquoted Elliott in fact, it seems pretty clear that Kranish interpreted some of Elliott's statements about wishing to reword the specifics of his affidavit about Kerry as a recanting of his entire criticism but he's not a paid operative of the Democratic campaign.
If you are right, then it may have been an anti-Kerry guy who did this. Maybe even (uh oh) an evil conservative from the vast rightwing conspiracy. But, seriously, if that's the case, it may have been a Republican and not a Bush-basher. People here shouldn't jump to conclusions like that.
The current headline on this story describes what happened better than the posted title:
The current or real title is: "***BREAKING***
Kerry Supporters Hack Barnes & Noble Website"
Wow. It's still there.
B&N is so liberal I wouldn't put it past them.
Hacked? Maybe. Remember, B&N CEO Lenny Riggio is a big Kerry Supporter.
This is asinine!
NOW FRONTPAGE ON DRUDGE
Six figure cash payouts to "friendly" reporters like Kranish would be just chump change for a BILLIONAIRE like Kerry-Heinz.
