WE FREEPERS NEED TO DO OUR PART TO MAKE SURE IT STAYS ON THE AIR UNTIL THE ELECTION!
I have made my contribution to the Swift Boat Vets in appreciation of your service and for the thousands of Vietnam veterans who served honorably but were grievously wronged by Kerry's lies.
I hope that with this ad and book (on order) the truth will come out and all Vietnam veterans will be held in the high esteem and honor they deserve.
Got through to McCain's Tucson office. Very nice female listened to my concerns about McCain using words like "dishonest" regarding this group.
I pointed to the May press conference the group held where they declared themselves as non-partisan and not affiliated with the Republicans. Their concern was John Kerry being put forth as the dem nominee and they find him "unfit" and that is their concern, not partisan "dirty tricks".
I said I was dismayed that McCain would so hastily imply there might be Republicans pushing the men forward. I said I watched the May press conference and I have seen the ad on the internet. I said these men had eyewitness stories to tell and that they were Vietnam Vets, too, just like John Kerry and Senator McCain and they deserved the respect and chance to have their voices heard. I added that I found the men serious and credible.
Finally I said it is frustrating to see attack after attack on GWB from Moore, Clarke, Wilson and so on, with charges that time after time turn out to be false, and I don't see Senator McCain stepping forward to as vociferously denounce those. I did say I was sure the media ran like the wind to get comment from him on this as it was about "Vietnam" and I would like him to step back and not be so quick to denounce or use words like "dishonest" when to what I can see these men appear to have something to say that looks to be true.
She was nice and took my name and address. I'm sure I will receive the usual form letter thanking me for calling. I did ask if she'd heard about the ad and received other calls. She said yes, she'd received about 4 calls.
Thanks for starting this thread!
$100 contribution to Swift Boat Vets made.
My bad. It was not his brother in law, but, his good friend, George Butler-who I believe helped produce Kerry's DNC video.
" The Long War of John Kerry, " Joe Klein, the New Yorker, 2002
" By all accounts, the loss was devastating.
It was the first deviation from the career trajectory he had imagined for himself in prep school.
"He came to my home in New Hampshire that weekend," his friend George Butler, a documentary filmmaker who was then a freelance photographer, recalls.
"He wouldn't say a word to anyone. He sat there Friday night and built an entire model ship from scratch.
On Saturday, he and I climbed a mountain together.
He still wasn't talking...
He was the most despondent-looking human being I had ever seen."
We have no idea how long his muteness and withdrawal lasted or if it was part of a pattern. I'd bet money on the latter.
Rush just re-played ad.
*Says some libs are on hold.
He'll be talking to them shortly.
Got through...TOld her I was from Indiana but had seen the AP story. Was concerned that McCain had taken this position....TOld her I'd been following this stsory since spring when they had their press release....how it was a bi-partisan group and how difficult it was for some of them to speak....
That they were truly heroes for using their first amendment rights and speaking up now was their patriotic duty....They had tried to be heard before the conventions no one was listening........
That McCain needed to sit down and talk with this group before he opened his mouth in judgment. Was EXTREMELY disappointed in him.
Form letter expected.
The only way Kerry could recover from that ad is if the election is rigged.
Excellent.
Rush is now going to play excerpts of the press behavior toward Scott McClellan back when the issue of GWB's national guard service was resurrected.
Playing now.
(obviously to illustrate what the press DOES consider important and "newsworthy" and that they ARE willing to question the service of a public official)
I watched this thing when it took place back in February. We called them rabid jackals.
How did you like the statement Rush read by Admiral Hoffman of the Swift Boat Vets in response to McCain's criticism?
Powerful stuff!!!!
Ended with "We served with John Kerry and you did not!"
Good call to McCain. You made all the right points with his staff.
Do they have a right to be heard? Yes.
But why should we pay any special attention to them? Because John Kerry put them on stage. He's the one who stood up in front of their picture, intimating that they supported his candidacy and his account of his actions in Viet Nam.
He did so again, just last week - after having received a "cease and desist" letter from those vets, who objected to that portrayal.
John Kerry put these vets pictures on the national stage, and John Kerry who asked us to ask the vets about what they thought of him.
He has absolutely no grounds for complaint if the vets choose to express their opinion.
Powerful stuff!!!!
I was very impressed, yet not surprised. These men have decided they are going to make their views known and they will not be intimidated or silenced. They are real men. Serious and patriotic men.
It buoys my spirit to see honor and decency take the stage after the noxiousness of Moore, et al in the last few weeks.
Thank you.
LOL!
On the 1:00 p.m. news (radio) from ABC, they said that Scott McClennan, speaking for the President, said that the President like John McCain, is AGAINST THIS AD ABOUT KERRY by the Swift Boat Vets. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
At that point, my head blew up.....WHAT ????....and they continued to speak about the President asking the men to take it off air. (paraphrased..."He should not have to battle this...." )
Keep an ear open. If this is right, and McClennan said it...then it is DEAD IN THE WATER ! And Bush helped Kerry get it off the air and stopped the book in its tracks.
After I hit "post", I will probably wish I stayed out of this...but boy am I mad !
Bush obviously supports the ad, he just must say he opposes. or maybe that's just spin.
bUMPITIY
It can't be "spin", because they were quoting from a Press Conference.
