Globalism Seeks to Kill the Nation-State
American Thinker ^ | 24 May, 2026 | J.B. Shurk

International government threatens the whole planet.

People are beginning to understand that those who rule in their name have long been working to eliminate the nation-state.

The United Nations is not neutral ground for national governments to discuss their differences; it is a governmental construct meant to replace national governments. The World Health Organization is not an international body meant to coordinate complex responses to global health emergencies; it is an institution vested with vast power and authority to track and regulate every human on the planet. The Bank for International Settlements, the World Bank Group, and the International Monetary Fund don’t exist to expand free trade, open markets, and assist developing nations; they exist to centralize control over all economic transactions in the world.

The onslaught of “green new deal” laws in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand have nothing to do with preserving the environment or “saving the planet”; they are part of a broader U.N. initiative to track every person’s so-called “carbon footprint” in order to monitor, tax, and regulate all human activity. The U.N.’s “climate reparations” policy has nothing to do with “justice” or “science”; it exists to justify the redistribution of wealth from Western nations to non-Western nations under the guise of “international law.”

The message we have heard all our lives is loud and clear: Nations do bad things. International organizations do good things.

The rhetorical war on “nationalism” didn’t begin because people who are proud of their nations magically became Nazis; people who are proud of their nations are called “Nazis” so that those who rule over us can demonize the nation-state. If you go back through newspapers and scholarly essays before WWII, “nationalism” and “patriotism” are used interchangeably.

The left wants globalism because of their hunger for power. And those who desire power the most are the ones who can least be trusted with it.

The United Nations is not neutral ground for national governments to discuss their differences; it is a governmental construct meant to replace national governments.

From its inception, the UN was intended as a get-around against Constitutionally limited government via the treaty power. THAT was the intent underlying what Hamilton et al. foisted before the ink was dry on the Constitution itself.

The nation-state is an impediment.

The goal is complete control.

The end of freedom.

I agree with that.

Although I think China is in decline, I would say that China is a major power and China is not part of the EU globalism.

The USA, under someone like Biden, might end up bending the knee to globalism, but it seems more likely that we will remain a major power that is not part of the EU.

Russia today is weaker than the USSR, but they will never bend the knee to EU globalism.

I also don’t expect the Third World/non-aligned nations to bend the knee to EU globalism.

This is really all about Balance of Power, which was the central concept that came out of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) which ended with the Peace of Westphalia. That treaty is what really established the modern concept of the nation state with an emphasis on balance of power.

The EU may become one big nation state (I doubt it, but it could happen) but it will not establish anything like a global government. Europe is fading, and there are bigger dogs out there and Brussels isn’t going to rule the world.

A perfect summary!

Personal observation: The best leaders are often those that never wanted to be in that position.

USAID was a perfect example of globalism and who profits from it. To their credit, Trump and Rubio promptly dismantled this outfit, which had taken hundreds of billions from the taxpayer. The odd thing was that the poor foreign countries which were the supposed beneficiaries of USAID for food, medicine and housing said nothing; undoubtedly bc they received almost nothing through USAID programs. Instead, it was a beneficiary triangle - Congress extorted money from the American taxpayer; USAID paid it into NGOs that paid their political “executives” exorbitant salaries; and much of what was left went to the Democratic Party. A self-perpetuating, corrupt piece of globalism if there ever was one - a perfect example of the “First Among Equals” promoted by the Bolsheviks.

MtnClimber: "The left wants globalism because of their hunger for power.

I struggle to understand what the word "globalism" even means in practical terms -- as opposed to being just another way of saying "bogyman" or (think Flip Wilson's Geraldine Jones) "the devil made us do it".

Who are these alleged "globalists" and what did they actually do to us?

  1. Did they force Pres. Bush & Clinton to ratify NAFTA & China in the WTO?

  2. Did they force the US to lower tariffs enough to destroy the US industrial base?

  3. Did they drive us into "forever wars" with no plan and no victory in sight?

  4. Did they double the national debt, and then double it again?

  5. Did they reduce our military to a mere shadow of its Cold War capabilities?

  6. Did they begin mutilating children surgically in the name of "gender affirming care"?

  7. Did they welcome men into women's sports?

  8. Did they open the US border flood-gates to 10 or 20 million illegal immigrants?

  9. Did they use birthright citizenship and sanctuary cities to house millions of illegals to increase their party's representation in Congress and Federal spending?

  10. Are they waging war against the US Constitution wherever and whenever they can -- proposing to stack SCOTUS, admit Puerto Rico and DC as states -- "no bad ideas" as K. Harris says.

  11. Do they weaponize the government against their political opponents, investigating, prosecuting and jailing people for speaking out against their abuses?
Sure, you can call such people "globalists", but I don't think "globalism" has anything to do with it.
They're not international "globalists", they are our own domestic: At core, these are just American Democrats still waging war against the US Constitution, just as they have, in one form or another since 1788 -- now 238 years.
Given aid & comfort by weak-willed, weak-kneed RINOs.

The architecture of Global Governance has been in place since soon after the Rio Conference in 1992. The bureaucratic linkage among nations has been through ICLEI (International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives), which is officially an NGO. Think of it as a conduit for massive graft by tax-exempt "charitable" foundations.

If your County is a member, get out of ICLEI now and monitor your bureaucrats' damned computers.

Globalism destroys the middle class.

There are more rich people globally than ever before, therefore there is a big enough market for real estate globally, such that prices no longer reflect the local economy. So the locals are squeezed out.

Global government has been a goal of the Left for over 200 years.

People who pursue global government are reasonably called “globalists”.

National Socialists are a variation of Leftists who put national interests first, in order to gain power.

Globalists list their main goal as stopping wars, and today another goal is to control the climate (stop climate change).

In my view it is Biblical.

King James Bible
And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

King James Bible
As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

Those two verses make clear God’s position on One Worldism.

God’s plan is that we be organized as nations not as one entity nor not as hordes for that matter.
