Ontario premier backs down on US electricity hikes, prompting Trump to halt doubling tariffs

TORONTO (AP) — The premier of Canada’s most populous province said Tuesday he was suspending the 25% surcharge that Ontario imposed earlier this week on electricity exports to the United States after speaking with the U.S. Commerce Secretary and agreeing to meet with him in Washington.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have agreed to meet on Thursday to “discuss a renewed” United States-Mexico-Canada-Agreement ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s April 2 reciprocal tariff deadline.

“They call you and they hand over an olive branch, the worst thing I could do as premier of Ontario is ignore him and hang up the phone on him,” Ford said.

As a result, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said later Tuesday that Trump pulled back on his doubling tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, even as the federal government still plans to place a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports starting Wednesday.

Trump said he appreciated Ford suspending the surcharge on electricity exports.

“There’s a very strong man in Canada who said he was going to charge a surcharge, or a tariff, on electricity coming into our country. He has called and said he’s not going to do that,” Trump said. “It would have been a very bad thing if he did. And he’s not going to do that. And I respect that.”

Finnity had Doug on his show last night and was drilling him for answers, and had a sheet of facts in front of him to back up what he was saying. Doug was totally u prepared for the interview, and avoided answering any of finnity’s questions which were great gotcha questions, asking Doug point blank why he thought Canada should be able to tarr8f us with say 40% tarrifs while the us isn’t allowed to tarrif Canada... Doug had no answers for him. Was impressed by finnity’s grilling of doug- Doug went away rue-ing that he ever agreed to go on the show.

That Ford backtracked that fast is scarcely surprising to anyone that knows anything about the electrical grid and what Ontario has provided to it over the past say 5 years. Z had no cards to play and neither did Ford... I was half expecting Ford to say “Ok, I’ll just throw the switch and cut it off completely” to which PDJT would reply with “That’s ok, we’ll make up that 1% shortfall another way. In the meantime, I just closed the valve on natural gas which is what 70% of Ontarians depend on. How do you like them apples?”

The fat fu”k albino found out that the tariffs on steel and aluminum was gonna collapse the Canadian economy.

He thought he was tuff. Cliffs has mines in the Maritime provinces, which would have closed and they would have increased ore production at Hibbing MN and the UP of Michigan. That, and increase production in Australia.

Bauxite for aluminum is all over tge place. And Brazil and Australia, again, were licking their chops.

Nickle, which the fat fu”k thinks is only found around Sudbury, is being mined in the UP of Michigan and they just found more. A lot more up there.
Untill additional mines are developed, other countries will supply. That and untill we negotiate with tge Russians for mining firms to get into eastern Siberia and develope mines there.

At that time. Canada collapses.

Every day you don’t sell electricity is lost income that con NEVER be recovered. Much like an empty hotel room, once the day has passed, it is lost income.

Ontario would be killing themselves to try and make President Trump look bad. I swear some here on FR need to start having more faith in President Trump. He has shown time and again to know what he is doing, but some here are being swayed by the doomsters in the mainstream media.
