Islam leads global religious growth with 2.04 billion adherents worldwide, representing 25% of the global population.
Muslim population expands rapidly, and projections show a 70% increase between 2015 and 2060. This growth surpasses the expected 32% increase in global population during the same period. Muslims will likely reach near parity with Christians by 2050, reaching 2.8 billion followers that represent 30% of the world’s population.
Three main factors drive Islam’s rapid expansion:
Muslim populations show clear patterns of concentration and growth across regions:
Region | Current Status | Projected Growth |
---|---|---|
Asia-Pacific | Largest concentration (62% of Muslims) | Expected to reach 1.5 billion by 2050 |
Middle East & North Africa | 93% Muslim population | Projected to reach 94% by 2050 |
Sub-Saharan Africa | 30% Muslim population | Expected to reach 35% by 2050 |
Europe | 6% current Muslim share | Projected to reach 10% by 2050 |
Asia sees the most notable regional changes. India will surpass Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population. Europe’s Muslim population will grow by 63% between 2010 and 2050, while the overall European population decreases by 6%.
Demographics shift dramatically in countries with large Muslim minorities. India’s Muslim population will increase from 14.9% in 2015 to 19.4% by 2060. Nigeria‘s population will change from a roughly equal Christian-Muslim split to a Muslim majority of 60.5% by 2060.[...]
Christianity’s Global Growth Trends
Christians worldwide are growing at 1.08% each year. This rate edges slightly above the global population growth. .[...]<
Regional Christian Population Changes
Christian demographics show a dramatic move from the Global North to the Global South. Europe’s Christian population dropped from 66% in 1910 to 25.6% in 2010. Sub-Saharan Africa tells a different story. The region’s Christian population jumped from 9% in 1910 to 63% in 2010.[...]
Evangelical Christianity shows remarkable expansion. Numbers jumped from 98 million believers in 1970 to more than 342 million today. The Global South leads this surge.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. ()
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. ()
I largely agree with your observations, with the exception of your timing.
I think the forsaking was largely in place several decades earlier. The Catholics in the west in practice finished folding in the 60’s, but most everyone else of consequence in the west folded one to four decades earlier.

Demographic Advantage: Muslims maintain the youngest median age (24 years) among all major religious groups Higher Fertility Rates: Muslim women have an average of 3.1 children, while non-Muslim women have 2.2 children Population Momentum: Large youth populations entering childbearing years will give continued growth"
- Children born into Muslim families stay muslim and they will kill you if you leave the faith
You aren’t looking at how Catholics vote and what it has done to America during the last 175 years, first in the cities and then when there became enough of them, states, and then nationally.
I would have thought Europe’s Christian population was much more than 66% in 1910. There were Muslim majorities in Turkey-in-Europe and Albania and significant numbers of Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo, Bulgaria and a few other places, plus some districts of the Russian Empire. Add the Jews and any freethinkers and I doubt they add up to 34%.
Blogger seems to be making stuff up.
Pew from a decade ago found Europe over 70% nominally Christian.

lots happened in a decade
“India will surpass Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population.”
India is about 75% Hindu.
