After Months of Gaslighting on the Economy, Biden FINALLY Has a Plan to Tackle Grocery Prices
twitchy ^ | July 3, 2024 | Amy Curtis

'The economy is fine!'

'Wages are up!'

'Inflation is down!'

If all of those things sound familiar, it's because that's what the Biden administration has been telling us for years. They bragged about saving you a whopping 16 cents on your Fourth of July dinner a couple of years ago and bragged about cheaper Thanksgiving dinners, too.

Now -- four months from the election -- Biden finally admits grocery prices are still too high. This is something 99.9% of Americans could've told you, and something that pops up as a major concern in polling.

And here's Biden's plan to 'fix' this problem:

Got that?

Sue businesses for price gouging.

Bully grocery stores into lowering prices.

Spend more money on food stamps (which will make prices go up as demand goes up).

Brilliant!

The problem is not price gouging or greedy corporations. It's the government policies that have spent excessive amounts of money after throwing a wrench in the supply chain thanks to COVID lockdowns.

Nah. He won't do that.

To a Democrat, the answer is always more government. More spending.

And when he starts cracking down on 'price gouging', supplies will be constricted.

This is fine!

Best economy ever, Jack!

I remember govt cheese was really a thing and you actually had to cook for yourself with raw ingredients. I had some poor friends who go massive bricks of cheese and butter, gallons of oils, big cans of grains, and other assorted sundries all labeled, “USDA” Now, heck, I see pizza parlors accepting EBT.

lol. I think Old Janet Yellen might by taking massive doses of this excellent pharmaceutical, because she certainly has visions that I don’t.

Lysergic acid diethylamide, commonly known as LSD (from German Lysergsäure-diethylamid), and known colloquially as acid or lucy, is a potent psychedelic drug.

How about things that will work:

Stop turning our food into auto fuel by ending mandatory ethanol.

Stop subsidizing the conversion of farmland into solar energy tracts.

Stop paying farmers not to plant crops.

Stop the war on cows, eggs, and meat.

Stop slandering safe, inxpensive GMO crops as unsafe.

Stop allowing fussy eaters or people with special or imaginary diet needs to jack-up the cost of what the rest of us eat.

I remember the idiot bragging about “green shoots” in the economy in 2011. The recession continued until Trump was elected.

When all the stores are high there is something you are not seeing.

A tax, a requirement, the price of something.

But I doubt there is any gouging going on.

Wife and I found a place nearby that does stock outs, returns, damaged pallets, etc....if we’re careful we can spend $50, get all unexpired stuff that would normally cost over $150 in a store.

No fresh veggies, meet, or cold stuff; but when you can get a 5 lb bag of rice for under $5....it’s a great deal. (The fresh stuff she buys weekly depending on sales fliers)

Last week we got 15 bags of coffee (3 ground, the rest beans) 15-18oz for under $1 each - that’ll keep us in coffee till the holidays most likely. That and the unexpired kewpie mayonnaise for 50 cents each (normally $4-5) was more than worth the trip.

Of course there is a lot of expired stuff, broken/dented containers (I wear gloves for sorting), highly processed food, and stuff we just don’t eat. A lot is in unorganized pallatized cardboard boxes you have to sort through. But we’ve managed to find quite a few gems.

I do believe there’s price gouging. Grocery prices in Oklahoma are much higher than other areas,

In the 80's Oklahoma had a law that consumer prices could only be so low. The law was to protect mom-'n-pop stores from having their prices undercut by corporations/chain stones.

I remember Walmart having a problem as they expanded into Oklahoma. Their "everyday prices" undercut the mom-'n-pop's. I don't recall the resolution or whether the law still exists and is enforced, as I moved from Tulsa to Ft. Worth.

Sounds like an idea.

I give her produce from our garden and honey from our bees to fill some of the gaps. It is getting very hard for older people on a fixed income. Her husband set things up as best he could and it would have been enough if things had kept at the normal levels.

Suing the grocery chains into oblivion will rapidly bring prices down.

Cheaper energy means cheaper food. Means lower inflation.

Not quite.

Now it is mostly just a card you that you can use to buy what you like. Back then it was actual food. The government bought a certain amount from the processers to have on hand in case of civil emergency such as war or natural disaster. After a year the food was rotated out and given out to Americans who were in need.

It was basic food and IIRC was in white boxes with black lettering.

suing grocers raises their costs of doing business (defense attorneys don’t come cheap)

so the stores will have to raise prices
