NATIONAL KETO DAY
National Keto Day hits January 5th with an approach to transforming our health. Recent research suggests the high-fat, low-carb ketogenic or ‘keto’ diet offers a number of benefits.

Benefits
Two of the most significant perks seen with the keto diet are weight loss and healthy blood sugar support. In fact, studies have shown improved glycemic control for those with type 2 diabetes while adhering to a ketogenic diet.
Other health benefits of a keto diet may include healthy cholesterol and blood pressure support. It may also be beneficial for those with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Keto Plan
How does the diet work? By eliminating carbohydrates, your body will use up its store of glycogen first. Then it will move into ketosis and begin burning fat.
Primarily, a keto diet consists of healthy fats, like eggs, avocado, olive oil, and sustainably-raised meat. Nuts, seeds, dairy, and low-carbohydrate vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli, and green peppers are also easy to incorporate. Coconut oil, grass-fed butter, and ghee add fat and flavor to a keto diet. Occasionally, small servings of berries are added to the menu.
Eliminate these foods if you are considering a keto diet:
sweets, sugar, sodas, baked goods
grains, whole grains, and starches
fruits, starchy vegetables
hydrogenated oils, vegetable oil
diet foods, including low sugar, sugar-free, low-fat foods

If you’re considering the keto approach to a healthier lifestyle, or are already engaged in it, whip up your best keto meal or snack, and post a pic of it to Instagram using the hashtag #NationalKetoDay. For every post, The Vitamin Shoppe will donate $5 to Blessings in a Backpack, a non-profit organization that provides food on weekends to elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
You can also stop into your local The Vitamin Shoppe the weekend of the 5th to sample various keto products for free. Make sure to follow @vitaminshoppe on Instagram for more details!
NATIONAL KETO DAY HISTORY
The Vitamin Shoppe founded National Keto Day on January 5, 2019, to educate and bring awareness to the ketogenic diet and further highlight the many health benefits a keto lifestyle offers.
In 2019, the Registrar at National Day Calendar® proclaimed National Keto Day to be observed annually on January 5th.
KETO PINGO!..............
The Vitamin Shoppe founded National Keto Day to make money.
It’s seems okay for older and naturally heavy people.
I eat things that walk, fly, swim, and grow outside.
No lab food.
I have doctor’s order’s to switch to a “paleo/keto” diet starting this week.
He suggested I only eat an egg or two in then morning, an avocado for lunch, and piece of fish or chicken for dinner, on most nights. But no carbs, ever, unless they’re naturally appearing in vegetables.
Wish me luck!
Dipped in wokeness...
That seems very calorically restrictive! Surely, there is more food than that you will eat.
That’s maybe 800 calories. Is your doctor’s surname Mengele?
No thanks. I will continue with my 50% carbs, 30% fats, and 20% protein macros. Then I will use my standard “look at me, look at you”, when someone comments on my carbs.
Why do people feel the need to comment on what you are eating? It is the weirdest thing to me.
I was on Facebook for a while about 6 years ago.
Equal male and female friends, yet 90+% of posts were women.
Everyday I was barraged with pictures of their food.
No potatoes or other ‘starchy’ vegetables.

I’m a Second-Hand Vegetarian.
I eat things that eat vegetables.................
Such a tragedy. Someday...
Cows eat grass, you eat cows, therefore you eat grass.
QED.
:)
One time many, many years ago, the cows broke thru the fence to my In-Laws garden and ate all the cabbages that were practically ready for harvest.................
Did you turn them into grilled sauerkraut?…
Obviously the main purpose of the diet is to lose some weight! But he’s a GI specialist and says I need to get the weight off quick to help keep a hernia from getting worse and maybe needing surgery. My stomach blows up like a ballon whenever I eat anything, so like the old joke goes, “the doctor said well don’t do that!” At least not much, in this case.
Lets just say the Hindenburg Disaster would have been like a marshmallow roast...................
You’re certainly going to lose weight quick eating on that protocol.
Is there a timeframe or target weight?
:)
The nearest I can figger is the cows smelled the cabbages and it was too much for them to resist................
