I've been watching the fixer upper shows, and I don't get the hatred of "popcorn ceilings".

They stain and are pain to remove if you renovate.

Older popcorn ceilings had asbestos in them.

What’s wrong with orange shag carpeting? I agree, shag carpet is associated with the Nixon era, popcorn ceilings are associated with the Reagan era.

Older popcorn ceilings had asbestos in them. Well, THAT'S special - and something I didn't know as an interior renovater.

Terrible. Difficult to clean or care for. A hassle to repair or remove. I was stuck with one for 20 years.

If you repair your own mucked up popcorn ceiling, you live with the results.
Someone who is PAID to repair your mucked up popcorn ceiling has got to make the repair PERFECT.
Get it now?

You can’t clean them, e.g. to remove cobwebs, without particles falling off, and if mosquitoes come inside, they can hide on the ceiling, i.e. without being easy to find, as they would be on a flat surface. Also it’s a pain to paint, and you can’t tape ribbons for a birthday party to the ceiling. I’m one of the haters, and had popcorn removed from every surface that had it in my house.

Dad added a living room to the back of our house with child labor, during the 70s the popcorn ceiling (and shag carpet) was popular and neat with the sparkles BUT 50 years later they much like many fashions are very dated.

It’s easy to scrape off. Just let it fall onto the shag carpet, then roll up the carpet (in cut sections for ease) and chunk into the dumpster.
Float the ceiling and paint or, put up some old barn tin(my favorite). Put some vinyl plank flooring down and you are out of the 70’s.
