(...) SUMMARY A method of utilizing vitamin C in amounts just short of the doses which produce diarrhea is described (TITRATING TO BOWEL TOLERANCE). The amount of oral ascorbic acid tolerated by a patient without producing diarrhea increases somewhat proportionately to the stress or toxicity of his disease. Bowel tolerance doses of ascorbic acid ameliorate the acute symptoms of many diseases. Lesser doses often have little effect on acute symptoms but assist the body in handling the stress of disease and may reduce the morbidity of the disease. However, if doses of ascorbate are not provided to satisfy this potential draw on the nutrient, first local tissues involved in the disease, then the blood, and then the body in general become deplete of ascorbate (ANASCORBEMIA and ACUTE INDUCED SCURVY). The patient is thereby put at risk for complications of metabolic processes known to be dependent upon ascorbate.

Vitamin C is water-soluble, so consuming more than the body needs will result in it being excreted in urine.

Did you read the paper? It speaks for itself.
Seems like good information to tuck away for when I decide to begin my career as a pirate.
I will continue to only eat meat & drink water. Today is my 996th day utilizing this wonderful, ancestrally appropriate way of eating.
I take no supplements. Meat supplies all the nutrition I need to thrive!

A crummy commercial?!
I wonder how many will get those references
There is a ten minute video on YouTube of Cathcart describing how to prepare a solution of water and sodium ascorbate for use in an IV drip. Some believe this to be an effective cancer treatment when used in high doses. They recommend three days a week for several weeks. If done professionally, it could run $300 or more per application. My wife had cancer but we couldn’t afford it, so I was trying to learn how to administer an IV but it was too late. IV bags of sterile water for human use are about $100, vs $10 for veterinary use. Sterile water is sterile, right?
Humans, du to a genetic mutation that occurred In primates long ago, do not naturally produce vitamin C like most other animals.
The amount of vitamin C that is considered the RDA is a joke.
For example, a healthy dog produces 18mg of vitamin C per day per pound of weight. A healthy goat produces 80 mg a day per lb of weight
Yet the RDA for an adult human is less than 1mg per lb per day.
Studies have shown again and again the benefits, even among animals that make it themselves that vitamin C supplements aid in their health and boost their immune systems. Not surprising since it’s an anti inflammatory.

My hemorrhoids appreciate the diarrhea.
Solving the hidden codes in life. Well done!
Ahem! High dose vitamin C can result in kidney stones (contrary to the article). Also, the body makes oxalate stones from exposure to mold (from fruit and cantaloupe), lack of Vitamin B-6, lack of a calcium binder, and high dose Vitamin C. The oxalate stones can cause breast cancer, heart attacks from blocked arteries, arthritis, dementia and autism. If you are going to take high dose Vitamin C, only do so when under extreme stress from flu, etc., otherwise high dose Vitamin C can be debilitating and even lethal.

VERY interesting.
on another note, veterinary antibiotica ain’t just good for vets, eh? :-)
Here here. If sailors had not eaten the grain products they would not have gotten the scurvy in the first place. The body takes Vitamin C to process the grains.
Those interested in the effects of grains on the body and health risks might also want to read “Undoctored.”
