Folks...it is becoming apparent that the Democrats are pursuing policies that are going to collapse our economy. They are also taking steps to make sure they never leave power. What is a person to do? We have the examples of Argentina and Venezuela clearly before us. Anyone have some helpful ideas? Ferfal of Argentina has a blog spot and wrote a book, but information from our situation here would be helpful.

Depends on why your investing. If your good on the basics for survival and just looking for things that will easily be traded or sold for profit then I would say ammo, tobacco and booze.

Get some tobacco seeds and a book on how to cure it. That way you'll have a continuous income source. A couple carboys and some airlocks will give you a way to make booze. You can ferment lots of things into wine, not just grapes and berries. I think the best wine I ever made was from butternut squash.

(Be familiar with the regulations involved, of course. Depending on how things go, there might still be enough police around to be a factor.)

Ammo is harder to grow, but 2 of the 3 things on your list can be produced at home.

If you intend to use gold during a crisis, buy it in the form of wedding rings. Nothing fancy, just simple gold bands, preferably in your size. Nobody thinks twice about the person who pulls the wedding ring off their finger and uses it to barter with, that person looks just as desperate as everyone else. Nobody needs to know that you have five more of them in your pocket.

A lot of cities,suburbs, and exurb subdivisions on the east coast have tons of geese that just hang out all year round and never migrate and deer that roam thru neighbor hoods like nothing will ever harm them.

Where I'm currently at, it's rabbits. 5 or 6 adult rabbits living in every yard, but they hide well enough that most people don't realize how many there are. And when there's snow on the ground, they'll eat anything! I spilled a few chicken pellets by accident. The next day the spot where I'd spilled was completely covered in rabbit poop! That should make them easy to trap in winter, if and when it becomes necessary.

Yep, I’ve had stuff for years, that eventually gets “lost” and has to be bought again when Pa Kettle’s relative decides he’s gonna do it today.

We totally went without hot water for 6 months, till some of the ladies where he worked and the guy he was helping build a house shamed him into fixing it. Had to heat the shower water on the stove and use a sprinkler can for showers. (Back to the old days and ways).🤣

Saw a GORGEOUS male Ring Neck Pheasant today and saw/heard Robins singing. Spring Has Sprung!

One thing I have told people is don't stop going to the store even if you have everything you need.

Walk through, pick things up, check the price, put some back, buy a very few basics and pay with small bills, change look as if you are not quite on your last legs, but certainly like you are squeezed hard.

Look like you are on your last legs you are a target, look like you don't need anything your home is a target.

I’ve been trying to find a reputable plumber. When I find one, I don’t give 2 hoots or a holler if hubby is around or not. He don’t like it? Too bad—I ain’t liked all the inconvenience for 5 to 30 Years.

I just recently watched some you tube video, went and bought an auger and got my darn toilet fixed which has been a problem off and on for 5 years. Pa Kettle’s relative said I was gonna do that - you should have waited. Ha.

I had a tool kit come in the mail-it’s PINK- Hubby was like why??? I said, cause this way you won’t run off with my tools, and when I need to drive a nail, I’ll have a hammer handy. 😎

Our isn’t useuable those months either. And Hubby put some seedlings out there the other day. Inside that hobby green house we have a couple of the mini greenhouses/shelves with the zip closed plastic covering.

So he turns on the seedling mats and zips up the cover. I said, I would not do that if I were you, cause the sun is going to be shining hot tomorrow. Well, he had some stupid counter argument-I don’t recall what.

So when I woke up it was 100 degrees out there - I turned off the mats and unzipped the cover and opened the door and window to get the heat down — It killed half of the plants that were closest to the outer edge.

I like it for the extra heat in the winter(I open the patio door and it heats up my computer/TV room -12x24 ft.) when the sun shines and in the Spring and fall for transitioning plants. Also, Lunch out there is great when the sun shines.

But I have several plants such as lemon trees that need to be inside during the winter - and that was what the back porch idea was for.

I’m exploring bubble wrap, and I’m thinking that If I can partition a small section with the green house bubble wrap we might get by at night with a 100 watt bulb or a heat mat. Also looking at a kit for a second window and an automatic opener.

But would that be your solution for 5 yrs, or 10 years or more? Seems to me that it would be fine for a temporary fix, till the stuff to fix it can be assembled.

If it ain’t fixed soon, my solution is gonna be to get a walk in tub installed —we’ll see how that turns out. Ha.

I’d like to recommend Carol Deppe’s “The Resilient Gardener”, as well as her book “How to Breed Your Own Vegetable Varieties”.

Even if you don’t intend to take up plant-breeding, she has excellent advice about how to save seeds in a way that minimizes inbreeding depression, and how to select for plants that do well in your particular area.

On the other hand, I have a friend who grew up in rural Tennessee on a farm. He was one of the top physicists at the Oak Ridge Lab in Oak Ridge Tennessee. Lives in Knoxville, a small city. I, on the other hand live in the mountains on 12 acres with all the provisions in case the SHTF. He says if I’m lucky, I will survive maybe 6 months longer than he will. Just food for thought.
