The geomagnetic storm that resulted in the disturbances recorded during the night could have affected the compasses of nearby ships, she emphasizes. If Titanics compass error were only 0.5°, she would have been off her course for around 9 m over 1 km of the run. This apparently insignificant error could have made the difference between colliding with the iceberg and avoiding it..."
The other impact of the geomagnetic storm upon the Titanic rescue operation was wireless communication. According to the report, the Titanic used the ship frequency of 500kHz to send distress messages, a wavelength of 600 meter but could switch to 1000kHz. The researcher explains that geomagnetic storms may disrupt wireless communication through the addition of electric charge to the D regions of the ionosphere, about 80-90 km in altitude, and corresponding to the lower level of the aurora. This effect may enhance distant communication due to wave reflection, but absorption occurs at higher frequencies, and further radio static and interference may occur near the aurora, reveals analysis.
On the night of April 14/15, 1912, communication problems were reported. The Baltic Marconi operators described the radio signals as freaky. A few Marconi operators working in the area of the disaster reported atmospherics and weak signals. The Baltic could not hear the transmissions by the Mount Temple but had no difficulties communicating with Virginia, which was farther away, ... When the Mount Temple responded to the Titanics SOS, for example, Titanics Marconi operator Jack Phillips did not get the call, he only knew that somebody was calling. Another steamer the La Provence could not hear the Titanic while she had no difficulties hearing the Olympic, which was around 500miles (around 800km) farther away than the Titanic was.

Sunk by the Deep State.
for multiple reasons
1. to get rid of the opponents (Jacob Astor, Isidor Straus, and Benjamin Guggenheim) to creating the Fed.
2. Insurance scam.
probably some other reasons as well.
Here are a few links (pro and con) with multiple theories on the topic (I’m not vouching for any of them in particular, just putting them out so you can read and decide for yourself) :

Perhaps the most interesting recent issue is the battle over the telegraph and why. Some believe it will offer important evidence about the sinking. Some believe there are those with nefarious reasons to prevent its recovery.

A basic understanding of radio might help. First—I think spark gap radios were used. Now when I get on the HF Radio I have a hard time reaching someone close versus someone further away—its called skip. Waves bounce along the water, land, etc—someone else might be able to describe it further but that is the gist. So ships close by would not hear a distress call, but ships further away would hear it... And as for atmospherics—yup, happens all the time in radio nothing msyterious about it...
This thread is for smartass and insane posts only.
Occam’s razor. Between the mirage and the weakened hull from the coal fire in her hold - plus the haste which made her speed - the ship was doomed.
Case closed. Any other factors merely magnified the tragedy, including the shortage of life boats.

Too easy. Titanic was sailed into upper latitudes meaning known ice fields to speed up her arrival in New York. She was sailing at 22 1/2 knots, above her normal cruising speed.
The lookouts who spotted the iceberg too late had no binoculars because these were locked in a chest in the crow’s nest. The holder of the key had missed sailing on the Titanic.
That key just sold at auction for $500,000.
Oh yes, and the loss of all those influential plutocrats hastened the passing of the Federal income tax just a year later.
And the lookouts’ alarm was delayed because they were too busy ogling Kate Winslet.
;^)
My Grandfather (Maternal) was a early Radio Operater in SW Ohio and was one of many that heard the SOS from the Titanic but nobody would take the Message seriously when He tried to pass it on.
I still have some Antenna drawings and assorted letters from and too various Radio Stations and Networks across America.
Hard to be sure which of those theories is the most ludicrous.
Too soon? ;-)
Amusing but wrong.

Oh yes...and Kate...
I have read a lot of the titanic over my life - it has always fascinated me.
I found a forum (encyclopedia-titanic.org’s forums) with some extremely well-informed posters. there are threads there dating back 10+ years but they are just as useful today as then.
there are plenty of testimony items (lifeboat conversations between hitchens, fleet, and another, for example) indicating something was seriously amiss which was ignored in the hearings and official story.
lightoller’s gd says it was a tiller/rudder order issue, but says other issues were covered up by arrangement on the carpathia and won’t say which.
hitchen’s ggd says murdoch was passed out (alcohol) and that is why fleet wasn’t answered, - no officer present. she published a book on this topic. taken in the context of things multiple witnesses reported hitchens asking on the lifeboats, it makes some sense.
murdoch did kill himself upon release from duty immediately.
it is a fascinating topic.
It was the Jews......Iceberg, Goldberg, Greenberg, what’s the difference?
Global warming didn’t happen quick enough to save those on the Titanic... Then again... The iceberg that sank it may still be lurking out there... They float off the coast of Newfoundland today just like they did in 1912.
Doh!
Well, there’s a perspective you don’t see every day. While it makes sense, we lack concrete evidence. That is precisely how it is in a world of humans whose imaginations, while limited, tend toward chaos.
Then again... The iceberg that sank it may still be lurking out there... They float off the coast of Newfoundland today just like they did in 1912.
Movie idea. Killer icebergs! Killer icebergs infested with sharks! With laser beams!
