Anyone who's followed my posts on this topic over the past three weeks knows that the Wuhan Virus is impacting global trade and commerce. I've been detailing my employers response to the Wuhan over the past three weeks through my posts on various threads here on FR.
Having said all that, this evening I received a phone call from our Global Pandemic Response Line, instructing me to call into a tele-meeting. I just hung up on it, I was so disgusted.
Long story very short, our "Indian technology partners" in Mumbai are being instructed by the outsourcing company our Bank's Management outsourced operational support to, to stay home due to the Wuhan Virus.
The overwhelming majority of these "Indian technology partners" (read that: OUTSOURCED TO) are not permitted to work from home for security reasons, specific too Data Loss Prevention restrictions here in the U.S.
Therefore, our American "business partners" expect those of us left in Information Technolgy to "pick up the slack" and support their business needs.
F*** THAT!
I'm an I.T. Strategy Professional. I don't answer help desk calls. They think I'm going to assist on help desk or app issues?
Kiss my ass.
Ain't gonna happen.
These are the same a**holes that outsourced all IT Operations to India, and now think people like me are going to bail their asses out?
Ain't gonna happen.
Maybe some more of those India-IT-in-the-US visas would help.
Call Mike Lee’s office tomorrow morning, first thing.
Wow. In 2003 I was getting pushed hard to look at call center overflow and support to Central Asia.
I am so glad we convinced the President and CFO that our customers were so Yankee they would loose too many customers if we answered the phone with a Pakistani accent.
It was hard enough with a Bahsthan (Boston) accent.
Reap what they sow. Oh, who am I kidding. Leadership will just blame mid level managers and fire them. They’ll give themselves HUGE Wuhan Virus emergency bonuses. Fact is, most large corps are run by psychopaths.
I personally hope every Executive that made the decision to move operational support to India dies a slow, painful agonizing death.
Over and over this past week, farming out American jobs has been shown to be a huge blunder.
Yes it has. And now I hope Corporate America pays the price.
This current crisis will wake people up. Well get those overseas jobs back to America.
I kid, of course. Once this whole mess blows over the bean counters will reappear, and outsourcing will continue as before.
>>Screw this globalization bullsh*t. I don’t do help desk. Never have, never will. KMA.
Good man, be sure to point and laugh at the failure of their strategic plans when the request to “help out” inevitably comes. They may threaten your employment but that’s a small sacrifice to MAGA.
With all the old timers that are going to drop dead by the time this is over jobs will be easy to come by.
I worked in IT all my life. Outsourcing may look fine on paper, but I suspect that there are hidden costs that counter the positive financial analysis performed up front. There are some things that Americans do better just because of our culture of capitalism and competition. Two people from different cultures are inevitably going to interpret the same written requirements differently. If that makes any sense.
Yep. They’ll go right back to it. Collect their bonus checks even while their companies fall apart. These f’ers are never held accountable.
That seems harsh but I understand where you're coming from. When we lived overseas I wanted to STRANGLE a couple of them. Their egos FAR outstrip their work ethic and Indians seem to think that their culture is superior to all.
That wasn't tre for ALL Indians but, generally, for MOST of them.
They are ALMOST as bad as the Chinese...almost.
My experience as a consultant is that mid-level managers are often the lifers who resist all efficiency. Top management outsources to get around the obstacles of mid-level management.
Sears is the alternative. Let the mid-level managers run the company into the ground despite the best plans of those at the top. Currently, IBM risks being the next Sears as mid-level managers seem interested in their own little empires, rather than the health and profit of their company.
just going to tell you right now: WIPRO is the worst outsourcer ever. IBM is a very, VERY close second!!
if indians were half as good as they themselves they are they would have surpassed china economically a decade ago
Under different circumstances your post might register on my ‘give a crap’ meter’.
But right I’m not shedding tears for you. Stay 6 feet away from the guy in front of you in the unemployment line.
Which bank?
just going to tell you right now: WIPRO is the worst outsourcer ever. IBM is a very, VERY close second!!
That hasn’t been my experience. Companies I’ve worked for had senior execs that needed to be watered twice a week. YMMV
