Maybe some more of those India-IT-in-the-US visas would help.
Call Mike Lee’s office tomorrow morning, first thing.
Wow. In 2003 I was getting pushed hard to look at call center overflow and support to Central Asia.
I am so glad we convinced the President and CFO that our customers were so Yankee they would loose too many customers if we answered the phone with a Pakistani accent.
It was hard enough with a Bahsthan (Boston) accent.
Reap what they sow. Oh, who am I kidding. Leadership will just blame mid level managers and fire them. They’ll give themselves HUGE Wuhan Virus emergency bonuses. Fact is, most large corps are run by psychopaths.
Over and over this past week, farming out American jobs has been shown to be a huge blunder.
This current crisis will wake people up. Well get those overseas jobs back to America.
I kid, of course. Once this whole mess blows over the bean counters will reappear, and outsourcing will continue as before.
>>Screw this globalization bullsh*t. I don’t do help desk. Never have, never will. KMA.
Good man, be sure to point and laugh at the failure of their strategic plans when the request to “help out” inevitably comes. They may threaten your employment but that’s a small sacrifice to MAGA.
With all the old timers that are going to drop dead by the time this is over jobs will be easy to come by.
I worked in IT all my life. Outsourcing may look fine on paper, but I suspect that there are hidden costs that counter the positive financial analysis performed up front. There are some things that Americans do better just because of our culture of capitalism and competition. Two people from different cultures are inevitably going to interpret the same written requirements differently. If that makes any sense.
Under different circumstances your post might register on my ‘give a crap’ meter’.
But right I’m not shedding tears for you. Stay 6 feet away from the guy in front of you in the unemployment line.
Which bank?
No more calls from Peggy?
Look at it this way: EVERY American citizen who helps his employer avoid the consequences of outsourcing, helps screw his fellow Americans.
CEOs need to understand consequences.
If this BOA, I used to work with the guy that did some of the outsourcing... he used to work at Continental Airlines in Houston. Moved on to be the CIO of BOA.
Sorry, but I can’t feel too sorry for you. I’m sure those people you are counting on in India prefer to live that to do for you whatever it is. THIS has always been a possibility/probability, so maybe you should have done something about it instead of just counting on them. Stay safe.
If this is widespread, you are going to see a lot of CIO’s shown the door after this. Also, if the Cloud fails, it’s going to be bad. Maersk starting downsizing the IT staff that saved them from NotPetya and sending the work to India. They are going to get lucky again by not being a year into the plan when this hits.
