A world gone by. Colorized film from the last years of the Austro-Hungarian Imperial Court showing Franz Joseph, Archduke (later Emperor) Karl and the Archduchess Xenia, and I think I saw the ill-fated Franz Ferdinand in there as well. Background music is the old imperial anthem Gott Erhalte Franz den Kaiser.

Hrand suke nicholas nickolavich a WWI Russian General was 6 foot 6 inches. We flatter ourselves that we are bigger and taller and smarter than our ancestors. Nothing has changed except externals like food supply, medicine and shelter.
And Soviet...
Waiting for the Self-Loathing EUSSR pony empire to follow.
These jerks lived pretty good on the labor of millions of slaves. Slaves they marched into machine guns by the millions. They viewed those peasants as livestock.
This is obviously not from 1797 because the first movie camera did not come out until the 1880’s. It seems that the time period more fits the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
We are are certainly _heavier!_

If lefties like Woodrow Wilson had not forced the downfall of the Hapsburg Empire as a major result of WW1, would there have been a WW2? IDK, just throwing the question out there.
It was the Treaty of Versailles which made not only WW II inevitable, but also set the stage for almost every single other war/conflict, through today! Granted, Wilson's crappy call for world wide Manifest Destiny didn't help matters any, vis-a-vis influencing people like Ho Chi Minh, who was actually in Paris at that time, working at a menial job.
A great book about all of this history is "PARIS 1919:SIX MONTHS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD", by Margaret MacMillan.
The what ifs are many. If The Archduke’s car does not turn up the wrong street...if Whilhelm’s and Nicholas’ phone call results in both seeing the stupidity of going to war... If the Christmas Truce spreads from the North Sea to Switzerland causing the leaders to think about what they were doing.
1913 may have been a pathway to a bright future. You could travel by rail from Madrid to Moscow with no need for a passport. Philosophy and Science were on the brink of great developments. The New World was only beginning to cast its shadow in business and industry. And then the car took that wrong turn.

Agreed.
Royalty is a crime.
Any royalty alive today, anywhere, ought to be shot immediately.
Really hard to say. But the Hapsburgd, Windsors, Romanoff, Plantagenets, Stewart’s all bad news.
I might believe 1897.
An Excellent series is still on you tub.... “ Fall of Eagles” 13 episodes. Covers the Austro-Hungarian empire, the rise of Bismarck, the creation of a united German State from the attack on Austria by Prussia. Then covers Tsarist Russia— the murder of Russian royal family including Alexander— the ill prepared Nicholas and his German wife Alexandra— Father Gapon (Okhrana secret agent— later murdered by Bolsheviks. Rasputin, and the secret policeman Okhrana Director Pyotr Rachkovsky. Machinations of the Russian Foreign Minister with Austro-Hungarian F.M. annexing Serbia (a Russian protectorate) and then a Serbian revolutionary murders Franz Ferdinand and his wife, setting off mobilization based on treaty and World War I.
The series reviews Kaiser Wilhelm’s hopeless support of Lenin, the financing of the Bolshies against the Tsar (some 10 million in gold bullion on a sealed armored German train— all true) . Germany still loses WWI and the Kaiser abdicates & escapes to Holland for the rest of his life. Series ends there— and all of the “Eagles” of Europe have fallen. Excellent production of the fall of the European monarchies and their monarchs. Historically quite accurate.
Patrick Stewart (picard of star trek) plays a chilling Lenin.
Nothing about the Ottomans, as they were not European Eagles just allied with Germany, but they went as well.

It is a collection of clips from different years and events. We see the Emperor attending various functions and then later his funeral. We see footage of the Archduke Karl and his wife, and later images from their Hungarian coronation. The footage of the funeral can be dated to 1916. Most of the earlier clips likely date from the early 1900’s to 1913. Karl’s coronation was at the end of 1916.
Amazing stuff. Speed adjusted so looks very natural.
Thanks NRx for this topic and a bunch of these selections from the "colorized" "film" and I forget what else, topic name search, chrono sorted:
“If lefties like Woodrow Wilson had not forced the downfall of the Hapsburg Empire as a major result of WW1”
You have that all wrong. The Hapsburgs abdicated and turned over the government before anything was imposed upon them by the victorious Allies.
The Austrian and Hungarian delegations wanted Wilson’s “right of self-determination” to decide boundaries but that was rejected by France and Britain. Woodrow Wilson is hardly to blame, he wielded no power compared to Clemenceau and Lloyd George.
Wilson was too sick by then.
My hope is that Hitler and Clemenceau are eternally bound to each other in Hell.
