Urging people to follow low-fat diets and to lower their cholesterol is having disastrous health consequences, a health charity has warned.
In a damning report that accuses major public health bodies of colluding with the food industry, the National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration call for a major overhaul of current dietary guidelines. They say the focus on low-fat diets is failing to address Britains obesity crisis, while snacking between meals is making people fat.
Instead, they call for a return to whole foods such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as high-fat, healthy foods including avocados, arguing: Eating fat does not make you fat.
The report which has caused a huge backlash among the scientific community also argues that saturated fat does not cause heart disease while full-fat dairy, including milk, yoghurt and cheese, can actually protect the heart.
Processed foods labelled low fat, lite, low cholesterol or proven to lower cholesterol should be avoided at all costs, and people with type 2 diabetes should eat a fat-rich diet rather than one based on carbohydrates...

“Keto is hard on the kidneys...Low carb is better.”
I think (subject to correction by others) what is tough on the kidneys is high-protein, which should be kept below 30% on all diets, ideally at 20% of all calories. The foods where that really shows up is in poultry (at around 60%) and fish (probably the same, but I haven’t run the numbers). Red meat (non-lean) and cheese get closer to 30% protein, while nuts and vegetables can get much lower in protein. So you do have to pay attention in that area.
But your advice is still very good, even for diabetics, as they may not get off insulin, but they should be able to cut down quite a bit on dosage.
Who told you Keto is NOT low-carb..?
The funny thing is, since going Keto, I eat more vegetables than ever, they’re just the right vegetables.
“Our jobs prevent us from burning any appreciable calories. If we were active, wed have little issue with having more carbs.”
Don’t be so sure of that. Watch some videos by Dr. Noakes, who’s run 75 marathons (and even longer races). His health took a dive, right into diabetes - which killed his father.
In any case, you’re certainly doing the right thing now!
Hubby and I started 27 July. Feeling better than we have in years. Yesterday morning I had bacon and scrambled eggs, did our regular hike in local park, worked outside in garden for a few hours, and wasnt even hungry again until about 3:30 or so. He has an appointment with his endo this week. Cant wait to see how his labs have improved. :)
When I started, I was pretty much “Dirty Keto” but over time I’ve cleaned it up. That’s probably the best way to ease into doing Keto.
The best thing is to eliminate processed foods, that’s the big win right there.
There are issues with running marathons. It’s not healthy to do long-term.
Better to do, short, high-intensity workouts.
“I have a friend with diabetes who took this information to his doctor and the doctor said we were quacks, so he still eats a high carb, diabetes-doctor approved diet.”
I know a couple of people like that. Dr. Jason Fung, another leader in this area tells a story of one his patients (an older woman), after having everything explained to her by Dr. Fung, says “That’s great, I’ll have to tell my doctor about it”.
Trust me, they know. For them, going off grid to recommend Keto is a combination of whether they actually believe it works (if it doesn’t, this thread is already full of liars, which, of course, is not the case), and whether they are even PERMITTED to talk about it, much less recommend it. And there’s a whole story in that area.
Really good article:
23 Studies on Low-Carb and Low-Fat Diets Time to Retire The Fad
It Is Time to Retire The Fad
Keep in mind that all of these studies are randomized controlled trials, the gold standard of science. All are published in respected, peer-reviewed medical journals.
These studies are scientific evidence, as good as it gets, that low-carb is much more effective than the low-fat diet that is still being recommended all over the world.
It is time to retire the low-fat fad!

I’ve been passing this movie around to family/friends that I care about/love ..... starts a little slow, but it covers a wide-range of topics. Well worth the time to watch it.

“Everyone needs to watch the documentary The Magic Pill on Netflix.”
Thanks DF, it’s now queued up and I’ll watch once this thread quiets down.
There’s no such thing as Keto without being low carb.
It’s like you have a hot date, and on your left you have a pile of cash and on your right you have a 30-year T-bond.
WHICH do you need TONIGHT..?
If you’ve just eaten white bread, or drank cola, or whatever, there CANNOT be any way your body will burn any fat, zactly the way you wouldn’t pay for the movie with the T-bond or real-estate.
Keto ipso-facto MUST BE low-carb, it’s muuuch lower than 90% of people think.
For most people it’s maybe 25 grams of carbs, not much at all.
Our diets abound in simple sugars/carbs so it is no wonder we have tons and tons of fat people.
And as Qiviut pointed out, it looks like it’s also available on YouTube.
Keto is the way to go.
The food pyramid and low fat is a scam.

Thanks - I’ll check them out also!
Atkins lets you have more carbs in all but the original ketosis stage.
Also on YouTube, Dr. Eric Berg, Thomas DeLaurer and
Dr. Nick Zyrowski.
Dr. Berg is great, I love him.
Do understand some blood values can temporarily increase before staying permanently lower. LDL will likely go up, but so will HDL, while triglyceride will plummet to much lower values.
There is a difference between LDL and VLDL, which normal tests dont show. They behave differently in our bodies.
Anyone on Keto should agree with the article... fat, except trans fat, is NOT bad for you.
My $.02:
Anyone contemplating going on the Keto diet should research the issues related to keto/ketosis. There is a lot of medical information available on reputable web sites.
There are some serious health risks associated with keeping your body in ketosis for long periods of time...specifically kidney damage.
