Official advice on low-fat diet and cholesterol is wrong, says health charity (UK, 2016)
The Guardian ^ | May 23, 2016 | The Guardian

Urging people to follow low-fat diets and to lower their cholesterol is having “disastrous health consequences”, a health charity has warned.

In a damning report that accuses major public health bodies of colluding with the food industry, the National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration call for a “major overhaul” of current dietary guidelines. They say the focus on low-fat diets is failing to address Britain’s obesity crisis, while snacking between meals is making people fat.

Instead, they call for a return to “whole foods” such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as high-fat, healthy foods including avocados, arguing: “Eating fat does not make you fat.”

The report – which has caused a huge backlash among the scientific community – also argues that saturated fat does not cause heart disease while full-fat dairy, including milk, yoghurt and cheese, can actually protect the heart.

Processed foods labelled “low fat”, “lite”, “low cholesterol” or “proven to lower cholesterol” should be avoided at all costs, and people with type 2 diabetes should eat a fat-rich diet rather than one based on carbohydrates...

Pretty much everyone happy with the Keto diet will agree with this article. Needless to say, it set off a 'jolly' round of fireworks over there in our Mother Country.

I'll add more links shortly, but the claims are well-sourced, which is why the other side is having so much trouble shutting us down.

Low Carb / Keto PING!

I ran across this article from a few years ago showing the same debate in the UK. The backlash was unreal, with people (obviously after having received phone calls from their funding sources) running for the hills. I figured this weekend, being slow news, was a good time to post.

For those interested in some more reading, here is some other material.

The first one, just below, is their actual, 19 page report, complete with the 40 sources it cited:

https://phcuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Eat-Fat-Cut-The-Carbs-and-Avoid-Snacking-To-Reverse-Obesity-and-Type-2-Diabetes-National-Obesity-Forum-Public-Health-Collaboration.pdf

This article is 5 days later and discusses the backlash and how the panel members were forced to run away from the report:

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/may/28/national-obesity-forum-advice-fat-dangerous

And this article is from almost 4 years ago, but related to the same topic.

https://www.credit-suisse.com/about-us-news/en/articles/news-and-expertise/fat-the-new-health-paradigm-201509.html

Finally, this one is also UK, but on Alcohol Consumption. But note how ‘expert’ committees can be rigged, which is what this is discussing. Basically, they were using opinion pieces written by prohibitionists in place of scientific studies and thus concluded that the (legitimate) science-based studies were wrong - based on their opinion pieces.

Rush Limbaugh used to do that on his TV show when he referenced his own book, since everything written in a book is true (LOL). But everyone knew he was joking. He would say something like: “You don’t have to believe me that high taxes hurt the economy. It’s right here in this book. See, page 47, according to me ‘...high taxes stifle economic growth’. There it is, proving my point.”

Keto is hard on the kidneys.

Low carb is better.

Basically, just cut out wheat and sugar and you’re good to go.

If it’s processed beyond basic freezing or canning, don’t eat it.

Lower carb is the best way to go.

We don’t eat bread, pasta, rice, sugar or corn syrup-sweetened items, or cereals, or naturally higher carb foods (corn, for instance). We do have some lower glycemic load items like plums, watermelon, blueberries, black or blueberries, or peaches (lower glycemic value for the serving size).

We have family members with diabetes and we have said we will do what we can to prevent it before getting such a condition.

Our jobs prevent us from burning any appreciable calories. If we were active, we’d have little issue with having more carbs.

Eating low or lower carb takes one’s appetite away except for when you are truly hungry. That’s a good way to sustain yourself properly and lose some weight.

I have lost over 30 pounds on Keto and I’ve been at it...maybe 2 months.

This sh*t is amazing. I’m not even suffering.

Nearly EVERYTHING that’s been pounded into my head is totally wrong.

Add strawberries to the fruit list.

Forgot to do so.

“I am convinced eating keto saved my life...I am on a road to health now......still have work to do but getting there.....”

Outstanding. One of the ‘tactics’ used by the Left* is to note that the Keto diet is difficult to maintain, as it means having to give up a huge portion of the food that is still available to people.

...and that would be a legitimate point of discussion regarding people who are only interested in losing weight, where getting the weight off is more for appearance and hopefully staying healthy down the road. That pizza won’t kill you tomorrow...just means more dieting, starting ‘next week’.

But for MILLIONS of other people, who are diabetic and on Insulin (Type 2 only), the restrictions imposed by Keto seem very, very, reasonable, compared to what they’re facing (nerve damage, blindness, organ failure, loss of limbs). For many, perhaps most of them, going Keto is a something they’d much prefer, if it means ridding themselves of Insulin and likely the future consequences that they would otherwise face. The problem, of course, is that lots of people they trust (starting with doctors) or not yet on board - but they will be, as the science is on our side (along with the incredible results).

*and don’t fool yourselves, the people fighting Keto the hardest are the Leftists, as the last thing they want is for people to go back to eating red meat, as it pretty much opposes just about everything they stand for (animal rights, vegans, social justice, happy people, etc.)

Low carb aside, the odds of a food stylist finding 9 perfect avocado halves are worse than trying to win Powerball. ;)

I’ve lost 11 pounds on keto.

I suspect food preservatives are enzyme blockers. This if true would sabotage absorbing anything but sugars and fats from your food. If you ate a high processed food diet, you could easily find yourself in a high calorie / low nutrition spiral to obesity.

You literally starve while over eating... You are full while craving more nutrients.

Well said.

We had to fight dietitians and doctors to help our relatives put their diabetes into remission with low carb. I have a friend with diabetes who took this information to his doctor and the doctor said we were quacks, so he still eats a high carb, diabetes-doctor approved diet.

You know what THIS is like..?

It's like when they first said Global cooling, then it's Global Warming, then Climate Change.

Sh*t-can all sweet drinks, all grains, all breads, 90% of fruit, 85% of oils.

Avocados are Krugerands, coconuts are boobs, bacon is fine.

Any nutritionist from over 10 years ago is a slobbering, cross-eyed retard.
