Youll have the best chance of seeing the phenomenon Saturday after sunset from about midnight to 2 a.m.,
Youll need to find an area away from the bright lights of the cityand make sure youre pointed north.
The Space Weather Prediction Center offers an online tool allowing you to track aurora conditions. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/node/45

And never-ending light pollution, worse on Friday/Saturday nights. Not too bad in the NW, and after midnight.
Maybe?
Must drive far, far away from Chicago. I’ll be in IA along the river in a ‘darker’ zone, but I’m not sure it will stretch that far west.
The last time I saw them, we were geode hunting along the Mississippi near the Iowa/Missouri border.
It was a good show.
30 years ago???
Wonder why just Indiana?
Fortunately was able to see some of the Super Moon on Verno Equinox Wed. tho :)
I saw them once while 4 wheeling across a very remote part of the nevada desert at night. Not a single source of human light for 50 miles or more in any direction. Crested a pass and all of the sudden the sky was on fire. It was awe inspiring
Wonder why just Indiana?
~~~
Was gonna ask the same thing!
Why not Illinois, or Ohio, or Michigan?!? lol
Um, the Indianapolis TV signal doesn’t go that far.
Indianapolis TV signals cause the Aurora Borealis? :O
Crested a pass and all of the sudden the sky was on fire.
NICE!
I remember seeing them in Deerfield in 1973?? In 1968 there was an incredible display that covered 1/2 the sky for about 1/2 hour in August 1969, but I was in Northern Wisconsin at the time. (Or could that have been the result of HARP activity from the Clam Lake research facility? :)
“GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING: NOAA forecasters say there is a 75% chance of geomagnetic storms on March 23rd when a coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to sideswipe Earth’s magnetic field. Storm levels could reach category G2, which is moderately strong. During G2-class storms, auroras may be seen in northern-tier US states as far south as New York and Idaho. Good luck and good hunting!
Some of the most spectacular Northern Lights displays were on the Lake Ontario Shore. Unbelievable psychedelic show..
Being in the south I assume I would have a better chance of seeing the southern lights in Indiana, more so than, the northern lights in Indiana. 8>)
I’ll tell my brother ,Heads-up ,LOL
Partly cloudy tonight here in DuPage County???
Thats the forecast. I hope we can see them here. Last time was about ten years or so ago. Maybe if we drive to one of the local Forest Preserves and park near an entrance. Ill bet it will be good at the north or south sides of Pratts Wayne Woods.
L
It is an indiana site check the link that is why.
Thanks...Actually I did go to the link. Then I went to the Northern Lights Activity Website off the Indiana link...Could not understand why Indiana would even see them...Still seem far north.
Have seen them in MI and AK though :)
I saw them in the air from NY to London 40 years ago. Still one of my favorite experiences
HAARP !!!
Have not heard of that name in a coon’s age.
And they were going to set off a chain reaction that would consume the known universe? And beyond.
Guess I missed it?
You have to come to Indiana because the other states won’t permit the northern lights to perform unless they pay a special state performance tax that Indiana wouldn’t consider of enacting.
drive to one of the local Forest Preserves and park near an entrance.
Be careful with that approach!~
There is a code about pulling in or backing in the spot?
You may notice that 99.9% of the other visitors appear to be male?
There are many queer sites in the local Forest Preserves.
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
That would make your blood run cold;
But the queerest they ever did see...
Sorry about that Sam.
