Partly cloudy tonight here in DuPage County???

And never-ending light pollution, worse on Friday/Saturday nights. Not too bad in the NW, and after midnight.

Maybe?

Must drive far, far away from Chicago. I’ll be in IA along the river in a ‘darker’ zone, but I’m not sure it will stretch that far west.

I remember seeing them in Deerfield in 1973?? In 1968 there was an incredible display that covered 1/2 the sky for about 1/2 hour in August 1969, but I was in Northern Wisconsin at the time. (Or could that have been the result of HARP activity from the Clam Lake research facility? :)

“GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING: NOAA forecasters say there is a 75% chance of geomagnetic storms on March 23rd when a coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to sideswipe Earth’s magnetic field. Storm levels could reach category G2, which is moderately strong. During G2-class storms, auroras may be seen in northern-tier US states as far south as New York and Idaho. Aurora alerts: SMS text, email.”

Some of the most spectacular Northern Lights displays were on the Lake Ontario Shore. Unbelievable psychedelic show..

Being in the south I assume I would have a better chance of seeing the southern lights in Indiana, more so than, the northern lights in Indiana. 8>)

“Partly cloudy tonight here in DuPage County???”

That’s the forecast. I hope we can see them here. Last time was about ten years or so ago. Maybe if we drive to one of the local Forest Preserves and park near an entrance. I’ll bet it will be good at the north or south sides of Pratt’s Wayne Woods.

” Update: A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch will be in effect beginning Saturday when a coronal mass ejection (CME) observed on Wednesday is expected to possibly sweep past Earth. Should this take place, visible aurora will be likely this weekend at middle to high latitudes. The plasma cloud was the result of a C4.8 x-ray event earlier today. More updates to follow this weekend.”
