MillerCoors is suing Anheuser-Busch InBev for its controversial Bud Light Super Bowl ad.
The lawsuit is the latest retaliation from MillerCoors for the ad that shamed Miller Lite and Coors Light for using corn syrup during its brewing process.
MillerCoors is seeking an immediate halt to the campaign, which it claims is false advertising.
===============================================================
MillerCoors filed a lawsuit Thursday against Anheuser-Busch InBev, claiming that its rivals Bud Light ad shown during the Super Bowl is false advertising meant to deceive customers and misuses the Miller and Coors trademarks.
The company is seeking an injunction to stop Bud Light from continuing the ad campaign. MillerCoors is also asking for a trial by jury and for the defendant to pay its legal fees. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported and posted the lawsuit, which was filed in a Wisconsin federal court.
The lawsuit is the latest retaliation from the U.S. subsidiary of Molson Coors Brewing for the Bud Light campaign that shamed Miller Lite and Coors Light for using corn syrup. Backlash from both the targeted brewer and corn industry growers followed. After the ad aired, MillerCoors said that none of its final products contain the ingredient, which is used during the brewing process.
MillerCoors alleges that its competitor singled out its use of corn syrup because it found, through the use of focus groups, that consumers do not understand the differences between corn syrup and high-fructose corn syrup, an additive that has been linked to obesity. Dietitians have said that the corn syrup is not unhealthy when used during the brewing process.
The filing also said that while AB InBev said that the campaign was to increase transparency, it failed to tell consumers that it uses corn syrup in drinks such as Stella Artois Cidre and Busch Light, and even uses high-fructose syrup in others.
This deliberate deception is bad for the entire beer category, MillerCoors spokesperson Marty Maloney said in a statement to CNBC. We are showing the world the truth.
The 60-second commercial also jeopardized an alliance meant to help the biggest U.S. beer producers. The Wall Street Journal reported that MillerCoors pulled out of a meeting scheduled this month with AB InBev, Heineken and Constellation Brands. The four beer companies had been discussing teaming up for a national ad campaign to revive U.S. beer sales for more than a year before the Super Bowl commercial aired.
Several weeks after it pulled out of the meeting, MillerCoors published Nielsen data showing declining Bud Light sales after the Super Bowl on its blog.
AB InBev did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNBC.

Both should be sued for the swill they call beer.
Haven’t drank Bud since their VERY PRO GAY MARRIAGE seth rogen commercials during the NFL season two years ago.
How soon people forget.
I don’t. Target. Bud. Gillette. And I’m sure more to come.
So will they now sue all the cigarette companies that told us how many DOCTORS preferred their brands?
Drink German beer!..................
I don’t always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Abita Andygator.
And not anything at all from these canned urine companies.
No kidding. The last time I drank a Bud, Miller or Coors was over 35 years ago while in college. Even on a college budget, I wouldn't drink that stuff. Went with mostly imports because that's all there really was at the time. Thank goodness for micro-breweries.
Wait... I thought Anheuser-Busch bought out Miller and Rolling Rock brands and breweries awhile back? No?
So my boycott against Miller and Rolling Rock because of the new McCain/Anheuser-Busch association was for no reason??? lol
Well if consumers don't understand then I'm gonna sue somebody.
Anheuser-Busch was bought out by InBev

You know it.
Home Brewer here.
The purpose of corn syrup is you can lessen your grain bill ($$$), lighten up the color and flavor while keeping the alcohol at a certain level. So it serves a function for the lighter commercial beers.
I’m still trying to figure out why Anhuyser-Busch thinks rice is a legitimate ingredient in beer.
It’s a grain with a lighter flavor.....................
I get a kick out of all the beer-snobs that come out on threads like this.
I drink only beer made with water..................
Japanese brands like Ashai and Sopporo are rice beers if memory serves me correctly.
Thank you. So Anheuser Busch/Inbev did buy Miller and then sold it to Molson-Coors. And AB did also buy Rolling Rock before AB was purchased by Inbev.
Yep. I have not purchased any of those products for decades, ever since I discovered microbrews. Those brands are SOOOOOOO 20th century. They are to beer what Folgers is to coffee.
Coors light is my go-to, warm summer day, refreshing beer.
I like/love all kinds of beers. Dark, light, style, type, geographic location, all of them.
