Although their goal was to cure diabetes, scientists may have stumbled onto a new medication to help treat the devastating effects of Alzheimers disease.
According to a press release from researchers at Lancaster University, a new drug being tested for diabetes patients was found to have significantly reversed memory loss in test subjects and is now being examined as possible treatment for neurodegenerative disorders.
The medication, known as a triple receptor drug or triple agonist reportedly works in multiple ways to protect the brain against degeneration and promote growth. Researchers say that a study of mice being given the drug found that the animals had an increased ability to learn and retain memories.
These very promising outcomes demonstrate the efficacy of these novel multiple receptor drugs that originally were developed to treat type 2 diabetes, Professor Christian Holscher said in the release.
The scientists added that the mice showed a decrease in chronic inflammation and amyloid plaques in the brain, which have been linked to the development of Alzheimers in people.
With no new treatments in nearly 15 years, we need to find new ways of tackling Alzheimers, Dr. Doug Brown of the Alzheimers Society said. Its imperative that we explore whether drugs developed to treat other conditions can benefit people with Alzheimers.
The discovery of the diabetes drugs side-effect is not a complete coincidence to the researchers. The findings, published in the journal Brain Research, point to the link between some of the symptoms of diabetes and their link to Alzheimers. Insulin desensitisation is not only one of the key effects suffered by diabetes patients, the hormones lack of production has also reportedly been observed in the brains of people affected by the memory-stealing disorder.
You are confusing Silly Putty with Ugly Putty.
You can get it in bulk at bulksupplement.com and put your own together much cheaper than buying name brand capsules of it. Wear plastic gloves, or use the capsule filling mechanism, or get yellow. Same thing with Curcumin, which you can order there for much cheaper in larger quantity resealable bags. It is recommended to take it three times a day for life enhancing benefits.
My dog take both and it has helped them amazingly much, praise The LORD!

This is really interesting stuff.
I take Metformin, 1,000 twice a day, and Glimepiride, 4 mg. I also do simvastatin.
Do you know if Gymnema can be taken if Metformin is part of your daily regimen?
And how important is NA R-ALA?
I thought about getting B1, but I see on my One-A-Day bottle that each pill features B1 at 90% of RDA. Do you think this would count?
These are just comments that popped up in my mind, so I thought I’d ask.
A very Happy New Year to you!

It is always good advice to consult with your doctor before adding or discontinuing medicine. However, doctors are *not* pharmacists, who are the real experts here, so it is best if you talk to them first.
And, if they are unfamiliar with Gymnema, or NA (Stabilized) R-ALA, try another pharmacist. It is really hard for even them to keep up to date, especially with drug interactions, which for some drugs and OTC stuff like grapefruit, can run to half a dozen pages in small print.
NIH information about Gymnema.

And about ALA.

Thank you for the quick reply. Very much appreciated!

Don’t know where to post this but I guess this is as good a place as any.
I developed a fix for arthritis and a host of other auto-immune diseases but it’s dangerous. Without post-treatment chelation a potential side effect is it may lead to Alzheimer’s.
If I continue to develop it I think I am going to market it as a MRSA and staph treatment of last resort. It’s greatest impact is the first treatment which consists of a 1 hour bath soak. A patient doesn’t even need to be conscious. IMO better than inducing coma and freezing people to slow down infection. We lost a co-worker last winter to MRSA and staph. Working one day, died in hospital 9 days later.
‘Gymnema’

Amazon alone has like 15 different manufacturers.
Importantly, if you make it into a tea, it pretty well neutralizes your sweet taste buds for a while, so sugary stuff doesn’t taste as good. But it really amazes with its blood sugar lowering properties.
If you have a blood sugar test and strips, I would get scientific with it. On the day before you take gymnema, eat your normal diet, and test your blood several times as a baseline, writing down the results, compared to this:
http://www.joslin.org/info/Goals-for-Blood-Glucose-Control.html
Then on the first day of taking minimal dose gymnema, after eating normally, do the same time of day tests.
Hey, I resemble that remark!!
Thank you very much!
Not for me but for my son-—a type 1.
I will mention it to him when he visits in Feb.

I was totally focused on type II, which has very different rules, so this is definitely the case where “ask your doctor” (and pharmacist) applies. Good luck, though.
